I'm as big of an introvert as they come. I don't have any social media nor do I want attention. But trust me, $50k a day would definitely help resolve some of that !
Even if you lived in a country where $50k a day would make you a target of massive amount of real life attention and potentially danger?

A lot of people would still say yes. A lot of others would rather not have to be in that situation.

SO if people have such a hard life with money. Then why do they complain when we talk about taking a lil from them for taxes. Seems like a win win. You lose a lil money and the money you loses helps take a lil weight off the poor. So from now on I want to see Rich people with signs saying rich need more tax.
Being wealthy is what you make of it. It can be a blessing or a curse. It all lies within how you have shaped yourself as a human being through your life choices.

Money doesn't change you (make you worse or make you better), it magnifies who you already are. All the great things about you can be put into action through charities, employing others and giving rise to opportunity.

It also enables all the negative things about you... drugs, lust, deceit, materialism, pride, etc.

There are plenty of people who need legitimate assistance from tax dollars, do not get me wrong. However... and not to be rude, I also think your attitude towards other people's money is appalling. My generation has a terrible entitlement issue. Taking is stealing, even when it's done by your government. Charity is not charity at all when your money is taken by others through force. Especially not when most is wasted. Charity is a moral responsibility that can only be performed by the individual. When Principles slip away in a greedy society you start to see more and more choices delegated towards government.

The amount of tax waste is ridiculous. Our government spends trillions of dollars. Billions of potential job creating dollars gets sent to other countries as war aid to arm the very people that end up going to war with us and killing our own civilians who paid for their weapons. All the while they stockpile the food and let their civilians die.

In the past 4 years the amount of people on food stamps has nearly doubled (nearing 50 million). The war on poverty has created more impoverished people than anything else. Why?

We praise the entrepreneur for wanting to be successful, but if someone is deemed 'too successful' we demonize them. It's absolutely ridiculous.

If rich people who earned their money are selfish, then what is the person who demonizes them then wants to steal that very same wealth?

Wealth is your responsibility because people are valuable, including yourself. You are at the front of the line of responsibility. Wealth builds wealth for others. Make your own pie and stop worrying about getting a little bit of everyone else's.

Spreading the wealth ensures equality only in the loss of opportunity. People create opportunity not government. There is no better person to wisely invest your money than yourself. No central planning will ever make a better life for anyone.
The problem is that people ARE greedy. This is why we need goverment to manage things. Government IS better than selfish people with lots of money, because they do good things with it.

Aswell as there's rumers going around saying that he was found to have taken his own life this morning in a hotel.
Whether it be true or not I don't know, but everyone knows for a fact that flappy bird has been taken down due to emotional stress.

@FryingBaconStudios As I know nothing of the creators motivations for taking it down or how it got there in the first place, I should perhaps not be so cynical with my opinion of it. But then, as you know nothing of the situation either, perhaps this also displays a certain disingenuousness with your 'empathy'?

@tatiang that is a high quality problem which we all would like to experience one day ...;-)
Good luck with that..lol be careful what you wish for.
@FryingBaconStudios In reality I would be happy with enough to make a living and not being in the lime light ... I was just being a smart a$$ by saying it is a high quality problem which it is ... ;-)

    What ? :-/

The creator has been very clear about his reasons for taking it down, he's made it clear in interviews, he's tweeted his reasons, he even made a Youtube video explaining his reasons !! He's clearly said all the media coverage and pressure is simply too much for him, he'd rather just get back to his simple life making indie games.

He has. And I really think that some of you are just so bitter it wasn't your app causing such a stir. Flappy hit the big time after the most popular man on youtube played it and then his viewers flocked to it.

The gaming media have been nothing short of bitter a)because they ignored this game and thought it was crap b) he didnt spend a penny in advertising with them to make it so.

And really, do you think someone will copy 'pipes' from a Mario game and will probably take 8 minutes to make your own bit art pipes!

This chaps simple life changed over night and he pulled his app, so clearly money wasn't of interest, or he could have used that to hire some PR company. Over night a huge new brand was created but unfortunately lost thanks to bitter and twisted arseholes out there.

Like Balls? Then click here! We've 100 coming soon

@Socks Then of course I too will take him at his word ...

I do hope that my trust isn't misplaced and that it turns out he just couldn't stand the media scrutiny after sending his apps to the top of the charts by using bots to abuse Apple's review algorithm, then with the app ironically gaining more popularity than he could have possibly imagined and it all getting out of hand with the spotlight pointing at him while he had his hand in the cookie jar, just decided to take the app down and all the suspicious reviews with it before there was any more attention drawn to them ... scam it and scarper ... that really would disappoint me.

And, in all seriousness, the most disappointing thing would be that the dream that a small simple game by an indie developer can genuinely make a splash on the App Store would be temporarily dashed.

I read his tweets and watched his video explanation. To me he seemed genuinely distressed and is probably an introvert. I assure you my compassion for this apparently overwhelmed young man is genuine. Why you felt the need to question my sincerity is quite enigmatic to me. I do not envy this young man in any way. Why people attack him because he chose the life he wanted over money. I grew up in a family with money and I can tell you first hand money isn't the answer to life or happiness. I walked away from a seven figure inheritance because I chose a simple life over the demands that come with privelge. I have the life I chose and i'd do it all again. So yeah I can relate to what he might be experiencing.

@FryingBaconStudios Firstly, I was not questioning your ability to empathise, I was merely pointing out that, as neither of us really knows this guys situation, then your empathy could be just as easily misplaced as my cynicism as it is all speculation and opinion. Either way, you have chosen to take it at face value and therefore so will I.

One thing which I am uncomfortable with is, as I am sure you are aware, the 'privilege' of poverty also comes with its own demands. While your choice of lifestyle and rejection of your 'entitlement' is laudable, wearing it as a badge throughout this thread is not. Please think of other people's own circumstances and personal options before handing out advice on how you think they should or should not feel about their own financial burdens, some may find it offensive.

So annoyed, all I see on the top downloads is flappy this flappy that. Just makes me want to give up making anything. We spend so much time on making our games, we want to be taken seriously when making proper game but all our hard work might not even see 100 downloads for a few months and this crap is getting in the charts like its something you can't live without.

It's a genuine good game for mobile imo.. Extremely simple, extremely challenging, and very quick. And it's free. Those things bode very well - it's also pretty polished for what it does do, not trying to be anything else.

I don't care for clones unless they put a unique spin to the mix.. otherwise it's kinda dumb. And I don't mean replacing pipes with a different graphic.. something that changes the gameplay slightly but still keeps it addicting/simple/challenging.

Sometimes you have to go with what's trending

I feel the same way as you. It is sad but my wife always tell me that I should dumb my stuff down because she teaches and see students go crazy over games like cookie clicker, sushi clicker, flappy bird, etc. -_- I will probably start doing polished weird games myself this year. I have two serious games I want to do that will probably be ignored but my hopefully my polished weird game makes my other games get popular, similar to how Flappy Bird made his other games popular.

If it was making 50k a day in ads, what ads service was it using? Is it one of the ad options that Gamesalad offers also in the Pro version?

It really comes down to who you want to cater to. The casual audience make up the majority of Smartphone users. If I want to play a complicated game, I'll turn on my xbox or playstation. Smartphone games / Apps should be simple and easy to turn on and play.

I played a little Flappy Birds and noticed it was using iAds , but he may have had several advertising tools.

FYI He is using Ad Mob to advertise in Flappy bird. I read it in an article. Cheers
