@Jel: about 3 months 10-12 hours a day for 2 people :-) One artist and one programmer.
@nulo: thanks! I don't expect too much from the other two games, because one of them is a wallbreaker game and the other a simple racing game and they are made with game salad in 2D. Let's face it, GS is very limited and I don't think, you can make a game with it, which is a real block buster.
Now, wallbreaker games are like sand in the sea and I think, nobody is really interested in a wallbreaker game, but I make it to learn GS and the other game is also not the big thing.
And as long GS has no online highscore capability, they are not even interesting for competition. Not to talk about other internet depending features, like SQL and such.
I think, both of them will make exactly 0 dollar, like most of our other games.
I am afraid, something, like Alpine Crawler is a one time wonder. I don't think, the fart app guy has any other successful app on the appstore :-P
To be honest, this success rather depresses me... Now we have the problem, where with the money? If you don't want to take half of it to the tax office, you have to think very hard, how to spend it without coming into jail.
If you are a private person, it is even harder, because there are the questions:
Should I found a company? Will it last longer? What if it breaks down after 2 weeks and I stand here with a company and no money, just a bunch of responsibilities?
Hunn- I disagree on GS not being able to put out a top 100 app, when you look at games that have been in the top 100, they are games that could have been made my gamesalad like "toddler phone" and some of these other games like More toast and pizza... if we had pixel collision we could do a lot more, but I think that someone here will eventually put out a top 100 app with Gamesalad...
Ok, you are right, Dudle jump could have been made in GS probably.
@Crazybreadman: we don't have ads for alpine crawler. A few reviews were posted on smaller sites about the free version, but they are all amateur sites, no big ones.
There were no paid ads for the game on the net.
We paid a few smaller ads for Rollercoaster Builder, but they had no big influence on sales numbers.
Since you are generous in sharing stats, is there a total stat you can share. Like "for five days we sold xxx,xxx and made xx,xxx?" I'm too lazy to add them all up... ;-)
Although of course none of it would be possible if it wasn't a great game.
One thing that blows me away is the support from the free version. Yes it is a great strategy but even KILLER free games get dogged with 1 stars.
It is a real testament to the gameplay that the free version was so well received.
I myself have found it easy to get a ton of downloads on a free game just from a catchy icon and name (Protect your Nuts idoes more than 5k per day, which is descent)
however if there was a paid version noone would upgrade since its not that great lol
I think its easy for people reading get excited and easily forget what made this happen (including myself) and it was a lot of work on a hard game.
DOnt get me wrong there are some really simple games that sell well but i think AC will last a long time.
Also Doodle jump is more than it looks. It is very well done i think. I dont think it could be done in GS yet. it is very smooth.
They are still doing very well...hardly surprising, best thing I've played on an idevice by a long shot. The physics are fantastic and its as smooth as a peach. Felt they could have done a bit more for the ipad version but I was just so pleased to get it on that device I soon forgave them.
I might have to check it out. I remember looking at screen shots (if it's the game I'm thinking of)and thinking it wasn't my style... never been a fan of "3D 2D". 2D 3D, or 2.5D, on the other hand.... I love.
Still seems like it's an awesome game... must give it a look-see!

I learned many years ago that I am better off, when I can spend only so much money, as much I have on my bank account :-)

All of your above concerns are valid but if it was me I would buy myself a few beers for doing so well and enjoy it. Let tomorrow take care of itself.
Congrats

We will see how link it lasts...

nice job man
Maybe the next update will make some changes.
It droped to position 5. :-(

The game is still selling well.
The highest rankings were the followings:
#1 in Racing
#1 in Simulation
#2 in Top Paid Games
#3 in Overall Top Paid Apps
Now the game is #8 in Racing in the US store
The free version was downloaded 2 million times since october 2009, the paid version was downloaded 350.000 times since march 1 2010.
It's still generating avarage €250 a day.
