This game sounds interesting. Its funny because the sun features in loads of iOS games yet as far as i'm aware this is the first one which the sun because star of the show (pardon the pun). Can't wait for the next screenshot(s)... __________________

BackUpAndDown said: Aw, c'mon. Your suppose to be one of the revolutionary designers of the Gamesalad community and your going to sit there and say that your fine with compromising the quality of your game because your a little low on cash? Your starting to sound like one those people that release apps with mixed 90's clipart as it's images because they couldn't be bothered to put in the extra effort. It's not like it's a overly complicated menu or art style... You could easy redo any of the images yourself using gimp and a mouse.
I don't want to come across as harsh but if the gamesald guru's start putting out half baked apps then kind of example does that set for the rest of the community?
You're certainly entitled to your opinion, and if I've disappointed you from just one screenshot of the title screen, then I'm sorry.
The idea was to go for a bright look to the game.
The truth is, I haven't factored in a complete overhaul of the graphics for the menu (both financially and time wise) because nobody else has commented on it (including other artists that have seen the full game).
In fact, I mentioned to a couple of people early on that I was going to change the menu graphics and they convinced me *not* to.
I'm sorry, but you *do* come across as overly harsh. You've seen the menu. To start calling me someone who "release apps with mixed 90's clipart as it's images" and saying the app is "half baked" is just a bit rude, don't you think?
If you still feel that way after playing the game, then fine, we'll have to agree to differ. But to be this harsh from a menu screenshot and suggest I don't care... well...

Really? You didnt see what QS said in the first post....its taken him on and off near 2 years to bring this to market.
I have over 15 years of experience in design and Flash animation design work under my belt.
While Sunshine's title screen wont win any awards for use of a medium it does not detract from the game and its design.
But im sure your Light app wins graphic awards all over the place so keep up the good work. //sarcasm^
In my 'opinion' Quantum is no sheep. He is a free thinking ram with more insight than most. His games like most things are thought experiments, and from judgement of his output, I would say intelligently considered in damn near all matters, and I respect that greatly. If he wishes to build something that doesn't strike all as whizzo, then so be it. My delight will be to play the game and learn by it. I've never seen a single thing from him that doesn't have integrity. If that level of effort and thought was taken onboard by a larger proportion of the community all would be more sunshine.

I guess I should of reworded my post because I seem to have been misunderstood. The images and art work look very well done and I would say they rival the art work of some of the top apps. I was not trying to insult the images or in fact any aspect of the game what so ever. What I was referring to was how you responded to my first comment.
"I hear what you're saying, but I really have no art budget for menus and stuff, so it has to stay 'as is'."
Now correct me if I'm wrong but the "I hear what you're saying" part kinda sounds like you agree that adjusting the shading would improve the look of the graphics/menu but then you seem to brush it off because you don't have the extra money even though you could probably fix it your self for free.
So basically when I was talking about people using 90's clipart I was referring to the attitude of being prepared to over look the flaws of a project because they just can't be bothered to take the extra time... I'm not saying that I'm perfect but I consider myself still new to this field and it was just a bit of a shock to hear something like that coming from one of the more experienced developers with a history of creating high quality products.
Once again I apologize if i offended you, I overreacted and I was wrong.
...also if you re read his first post he has gotten "help" from myself and a few others at a very reduced rate - this does not mean he has used 90s clip art - but I get your point.
In fact QS has supplied services (damn lamas!) to us in return for helping!
But back on topic Im looking to playing this, I havent really seen what QS has in store for us all.
ARandomDay said: But im sure your Light app wins graphic awards all over the place so keep up the good work. //sarcasm^
lol That app actually has a funny back story to it but I don't want Quantumsheep's post to go any more off topic because of me so all I'll say is that everyday I'm blown away by how much it sells and I look forward to the day that I can figure out why or it stops being my top selling app so that I can finally take it down. Until then it is both a blessing and a curse.
When it comes to game creation, QS is a genius. Air Supply is one of my favorite games from gamesalad, and I know any future game creations he has up his sleeve, I will love just as much, if not more.
Gameplay, and fun factor are much more important than visuals, and there are apps in the app store in the top rankings that prove that theory as well.
I can also say that I've seen this game for myself, and I think the visuals are charming.
Sorry if I gave the impression I didn't care. I so do! More than is healthy, sometimes!
I blame my misunderstanding of what you said on replying at 10am in the morning and not having slept as I was testing the game!
Menus actually take me a long time to do as I *do* do some of the art. I'm not very good at it though. Seriously, I fail at art. Even my stick men look rubbish!
But I don't sit there and think 'That's good enough' - I always try and do the best I can, and as I mentioned, the menu works and looks fun (I think). I appreciate your feedback.
Anyway, as you can see this little game is already causing a bit of disruption! Bless it!
BTW, when I say 'I have no idea how it'll be received' it's not just hot air. I really, genuinely have no idea. I look at it sometimes and think "It's too simple" (one of the design objectives was that my mum could play it!).
At the same time, I've put stuff in that should better please the hardcore - unlockables, high scores, a score multiplier, chip music etc etc.
So I seem to be trying to please everyone - which is never a good plan! :O
Very excited about this! Can't wait to try this one out.

Thank you! I'm very excited about Game Center Achievements! Can't wait to put them in this game!
GamesDrink said: This game sounds interesting. Its funny because the sun features in loads of iOS games yet as far as i'm aware this is the first one which the sun because star of the show (pardon the pun).
I see what you did there!
Yeah, I think it's pretty unique in its premise. Off the top of my head, I can't think of any other games that have the sun as the main protagonist!
This brings with it some interesting gameplay challenges. After all, what kills the sun?
But I hope the ideas within the game will make people smile, laugh, and at the end, hopefully, cry!
Cheers all - for giving out so little info, the response has been lovely. Thank you!
RKS said: Like the background, can't say I like the ocean or island. Is that just graphics for the beta?
Afraid not, those are the final graphics.
It's certainly got its own style - Everything *apart* from the background that you like was done by my friend Dan - and I can understand it won't appeal to everyone for sure!
I like the screenshot, especially the sun character. The only thing I would improve is the Font used in the Score numbers they don't look as good as the rest of the Art and look like been created in MSPaint but the rest of the art has a retro Nintendo / Kirby look to it which is cool..
When do we get Video?

The second screenshot looks great. I'm enjoying the art style but I have to agree with GamesDrink concerning the score font or maybe it's the way the font "sticks out" in the background.
Lemme guess, you shoot sun rays to banish the dark clouds before planes or birds crash into them. For bonus points you brighten up the islands. Just a guess :P
RKS said: I think that it will be just fine. I will still buy it when it comes out.
You don't have to buy it you know! I'd personally see if the game interests you (when I give out more details), and if it does, make a decision off that!

That's not a bad guess. You're half right. I won't say which half though
Here's another screenshot, with a different score font (the same as that used in the menus) and what looks like a cloud in pain

beefy_clyro said: I like the art style, I'm interested to see how this one comes out, its like a nintendo version of Attack of the Kraken graphics
The background with the clouds is, in fact, from Attack of the Kraken! It just fit the game so nicely
My friend Dan LOVES Nintendo (quite right too!) so I think he'll be glad some people are enjoying the style!
Also, I think, in general, that I'm personally bored of the look of most iPhone games, so I try and do something different. It kinda worked with Air Supply - we'll see how this one does soon enough I guess!
I'll update the thread with what the testers think of it after the weekend! :O
Suggestion: You should have the start menu screen covered with clouds that drift off to right and left to reveal the sun and menu choices - just a thought
SingleSparq said: Suggestion: You should have the start menu screen covered with clouds that drift off to right and left to reveal the sun and menu choices - just a thought
That's not a bad idea, sir. I'll consider it, but it all depends on how quickly it'll all load up!
Can be just 2 actors right and left both depicting a bunch of clouds as artwork. Kinda like the Simpsons opening or montynpython style animation. Better yet a series of these where they part to reveal "quantum sheep presents" throw a little zoom into it and holy shades of superman titles batman! I'm all about high production values baby.

Hi QS, Sorry I couldn't post earlier, I'm on vacation in Portugal having quite a hard time writing on my 3GS... Can't wait to see the video at home, the embedded vids don't work on the phone...
