Hey guys,

After the optimisation debacle, I could REALLY use some good reviews. The update is on the way to the App Store (it's awaiting approval as we speak) and it increases frame rates tenfold! I thought I'd use up some promo codes for the 1.0 version while I can.

    Cheers :) You won't believe the difference in the update... all a learning curve I guess... optimisation is key! It's actually really got me wanting to learn Objective C now...

    Hey Rob, I heard it's sweet on iPad. I'm gonna release an iPad only version which will pretty much be what you have, with the updated HUD and higher res gfx :-)

    I was going to say do a hires version...
    what are the bits that you have optimised..what are the main changes that give the best results?

    I made sure everything was power of 2 (surprising what a diff that made!) and dropped down to as low, colour-wise as Photoline would let me ;) 16 colours. Most of the pics come in at under a kb!

    There are a HEAP of double up actors in the game, which I know not to do next time but these are all used for menus/languages... I got rid of all the prototypes and went with instances for any actors that are involved in actual gameplay. Obviously there's still a lot of spawning going on, though but I did what I could.

    Basically I removed heaps of actors, changed image sizes and got rid of so many enemies onscreen (which is a shame - but oddly I found it a bit tougher without the constant onslaught on level 3).

    Plays much nicer but the iPad version will be truer to the original! Plays sweet on Mac, too! I might upload it here... though I read it's easy to rip them... not sure I want that... lol.

    EDIT: Oh, I removed a heap of animation frames too... nothing TOO noticeable though ;)

    iPad users might like to keep the original version until the XL one comes out.
