After selling and astronomically mind-bending 47 copies during it's two week lifespan on the App Store (even after being in New & Noteworthy in both Action and Arcade games), Nesen Probe has an update!
I don't think all the codes were taken from my first announcement, but here are a few more if anyone would like to give it a go.

If you would, post what code you use. Ratings, and especially reviews would be much appreciated (and very helpful). Positive, or critical, it's all good!
And if these get taken, I'll gladly post some more.

I will leave 5 star rating and great review.
thanks
But - excusing my ignorance here - if you're giving away promo codes, presumably you have a number of your games that are free - how do I download the game from the app store without paying for it? (If you don't know, you don't know...)
I'd like to use JWRRNRWYKM3J and I'll gladly leave a rating and review.

@ gyroscope, I know you've got a game in the works... this is something to think about before your game comes out. Apple gives you 50 codes, and you can get 50 more every update you do. Codes are only good for a month or so from the time you download them, but you can download them at will from itunes connect.
You want to decide where best to distribute them. Some you will want to give to the review blogs, like app safari and touch arcade etc. Some you may want to post in forums like touch arcade and on GameSalad. Some you should give to friends and ask them for reviews. There are also sites that just distribute promo codes, but with mixed results. Promo code dispenser requires members to do a review before they can take another code. Nice idea, but not a lot of traffic (at least for me). I put six up about two weeks ago and only 3 have been taken. Not blaming the site, not many were interested in this app anywhere really.
It's sometimes a bit of a crap shoot as to where to put them, but you want to use them wisely.
:-)
PS I've been considering putting up the first level of my game for other members to beta test and give me any feedback, constructive crit-wise; if they find it keeps their attention, any bugs that I've missed, etc. as this level would be pretty much the style of all the other levels. Would that be OK to do, do you think; do many others do that?
One aspect that QS spoke of was to register the name even before the game hit the app store, but it's so strange, I can't see anyone pinching it! (I haven't paid my developer fee yet).
PPS Hope this doesn't derail your thread.

I've never done this, but you could also make ad hoc versions and send to people who would agree to beta test on their devices. You have to get their iPhone/iPod/iPad serial number to do that, I think.
Personally, I would say trust your gut and ask others close by to give feedback if you want.
So good thinking there, design219; my gut instinct now tells me to follow your advice and ask those close, as you say, to beta test (asking others not to be offended that they aren't on the list). I'd trust those implicitly to send them a game file, as I've not bought the GS licence yet (that's a couple of months away; GS fully deserve my $99 , but can't find the money for it quite yet).
However; as luck would have it - or not, I mean, the latest version of my game file has screwed up, fairly big-time, less than ten minutes ago :-( I know what I did to make it happen; I'm going to post about it soon. So first level will take more than a few days to finish now.
Thanks for your sound advice.

That's cool, but I gave you a number of reasons why I had a hard time rating your game. I think I was actually generous. I would like to hear what you have to say about mine now... exactly why you felt the need to downgrade the rating. Honestly, you will not hurt my feelings.
Sometimes, there's a reason your (and I use 'your' generally to mean ALL of us) app gets a low review score.
Sure, usually it's just people being wankers. But sometimes you read your one star reviews and your conscience tells you 'actually, they're right', despite all the effort you've already put into the game.
You can either ignore it, and ask for reviews from the community here, or do as ButterBean did recently, i.e. fix the issues that were resulting in her apps lower scores.
This community's great, and we're all usually generous to eachother with regard to reviews. That's fine. But what happens when you cannot, in all honesty, give a good review?
Do you do it anyway? Or do you try and help like Design has here and give an honest review? If I give your game a bad review, will you hunt down mine and do the same?
That's not the way to do things...
I know we should all try and help eachother out. But personally, I try not to take codes from something I don't think I'd like. That helps! If I think I'll like the game, I'll gladly take a code and leave a review.
Let's cut the 'pressure selling' right now, and offer promo codes to those that would like one, as opposed to 'PLEASE REVIEW AND LEAVE 5 STARS'.
It makes things awkward sometimes...

I really think this game is just so unappealing visually ... the screen shots are a turn off. People don't like noses. I've tried to give away promo codes on touch arcade and there have been only 4 takers.
I've considered revising the controls to a joystick because of some comments, but at this point, I'm not sure it's worth the effort.
I've also considered repurposing the game with some sort of machine instead of the nose/machine hybrid thingy to see if that would be more appealing.
Or I may just go on to the next project. shrug.
Thanks!
I think it would benefit from having a joystick option (I'm not a fan of buttons on a touch device for some reason!) but I understand your reticence to update the game.
Still, it's your game! You made it! Be proud!
You could always change the main graphic to a machine of some sort, as you suggested, and just have the nose as a bonus (as in, finish the game, have the chance to play as a nose!). Keep it out of the screenshots maybe, if you feel it's damaging the image or appeal of the game.
Anyway, wish you the best with it,
QS
