Udder Destruction was NOT made with Graphene Thunder. The youtube video alone was uploaded in early 2013 so unless @The_Gamesalad_Guru has been in alpha testing since late 2012, then this game wasnt made with Graphine. Im not sure why Dave has provided that video as a tease (other than he most likely is not allowed to discuss or demonstrate what the new engine does).
To be honest, im suprised he has made it known that he is alpha testing! His GS inbox will be red hot by doing so.....
Personly I welcome the new SDK its a great opportunity to start from scratch and implement the features we all crave. Its a shame its been built on promises made to the GS community for Gamesalad but at the end of the day, if GS build 1 final stable build of GS with working multiplayer, then in all its a win win situation. This way the community and supporters of GS can still release the muliplayer games that are in current build (I have 3 in progress!) and still continue to be pro GS if they choose. The only way I would be disapointed is if GS didnt finalise and iron out the bugs stopping multiplayer from being released as a stable build. Hopefully what GS will do is stop adding features to GS and create a stable build of what is on offer in the nightlies. This will provide a good final release to leave behind and then concentrate on the more powerful Graphene. Then members from the GS community can build games to a stable release and not for future builds that are in the nightlies. In the hope that one day they become stable.
Lets pull together guys and support this rather than damage what is the best community in the market. The reason why GS is so popular is the strong community here and the availability of free support provided by its members, (as well as drag and drop software!).
*I must add though that I dont agree in having a queue to test the software! The more spam you send the higher up the list you go? I could get to the top in half an hour by setting up a catch all email account and spam my way to the top. I dont agree with this at all. Knock that idea on the head GS Staff. Just look at who competent to test such software and roll it out. A simple search on the forums will let the GS team know of a few worthy testers. Or even beta (see what I did there!) have a request link and have member request such privileges. Then vet the candidates who request it. Thats just my 2 cents.
@gingagaming Udder Destruction was shown as an example of what Graphene is capable of, as it was built with the underlying engine that Graphene has been built on. Draw Something was another game that was mentioned as using the underlying engine too.
It appears the Graphene engine was initially built a few years ago when CodeWizard was at a previous company, and it's now being modified and changed to be the basis of the new toolset.
So instead of making changes and supporting the initial code base that GameSalad was built on, I think CodeWizard decided it was easier for him and possibly the team as a whole to move forward with his own code base that he obviously knows better... rather than struggle with a code base that is obviously someone elses brainchild... someone who I'm guessing is no longer at GameSalad.
Like others have said, I don't think Udder Destruction is a particularly good example to be using to show how much better the new Graphene engine is over the current GameSalad one, as theres nothing Ive seen in Udder Destruction that couldnt be done using the current engine.
Again... I'm still not convinced this has all come about for the right reasons, and for the best interests of the users/community, but I'm going to give it time and see how it pans out.
And yup... The sign up for the alpha of Graphene is just an additional slap in the face for current GS Pro subscribers. It shouldnt be based on how much you can promote the tool on their behalf... But should be giving priority to the Pro subscribers that have been misled as to what the cross platform creator actually was, and who have helped to fund its development.
Forgive me but I hear a lot of Pro users saying we were or are being ripped off. When you pay for Pro you're looking to get access to specific features, Android, ad networks I imagine are the main reason people go pro. If you bought pro to specifically support GS then that notion is kinda misguided. GS is a business and it's up to them how they spend their capital. It's not like Pro is a lifetime thing. We pay by the year and anyone who buys should be buying what it available at the moment and not based on future speculation as that makes no sound business sense for anyone. GS never said what the cross platform creator was or what it wasn't. Nothing was ever implied unless by imply it carried a similar title 'creator'. Frankly, I don't quite understand the madness, panic, down right Armageddon type despair. It makes no rationale sense to me.
This current development bears no comparison to the past as was stated even by those skeptics, that code wizard who leads development wasn't here during those fiascos or party to them. It's the people making the promises that makes the difference and not the promise it's self. Code wizard has proven to me anyway he is a man of his word, talented, dedicated and capable of doing these things. The guys has made GS and the relations between it and the community much better. Anyone who has been here knows what it was like when he wasn't here.
Give the guy a chance to prove to you he can and will do this.
So @The_Gamesalad_Guru is an alpha tester? I hope Socks and DBA is also. Inbox explosion !! Lol JK. The way he stated it almost made me think he was part of GS and making Graphene with them. That woukd be exciting.
Also, I didnt see anywhere that he said Udder Destruction was made with Graphene.
The original announcement said it what made with the same engine.
Quote "The new engine is the same one used to build games (LIKE) Draw Something, Udder Destruction, and Jangle. It’s fast, flexible, and battle-tested."
My point was if they have a screenshot of a game on their website...Id like to see a link for a game like THAT...not a 2D game that looks like it was made with an engine like the Creator.
Seems like some of the people in the beta have been wearing their knee pads for a while now. So who do i have to bend over for to get into this beta quicker?
People help out with bug finding and squashing, and go beyond everyone else to make GameSalad better for themselves and everyone who uses the software. It's only logical that these are the members who are turned to first to help with the new engine. So much goes on behind the scenes with some of these members. They really don't get the credit they deserve sometimes.

There's a slap on the face to what people have done to build this community from nothing. It seems everyone wants to help when it's exciting but can't be bother to help day to day the forum users.
I'm curious if this will work for Mac and Windows the same or will there be delays in fixing Mac version bugs while trying to catch Windows version up.

It's Cross Platform - which means that it's the same engine and version running on both Mac and Windows. So each update will be pushed to each platform at the same time. This will be much better than how the current system is set up with GameSalad.

Well that's ok. Because GRAPHENE is going to be everything I said Gamesalad Creator should be. From what I'm seeing, it has restored my faith and hope in Gamesalad. All the reasons for the dev team to start from scratch. Are the reasons I complained about from the beginning. Sooooo if being blacklisted is the price for keeping it honest? So be it.
The amount of misjudged anger, lack of understanding and general ill will in this thread depresses me. I've been away from the computer for the holidays, looking in only on occasion, and I come back to this thread.
We complained about GameSalad being slow, GameSalad missing vital features, GameSalad being slow to add features etc. They address literally every single one of our complaints (in theory - only time will tell for sure) and everyone loses their minds.
When it comes to the money, my advice is to wait to see what policy GameSalad actually goes with before everyone gets angry about being ripped off based on theories and speculation.
Like I said, I'm extremely excited about this announcement. I'm not extremely excited about how to get into the beta; that's one thing that doesn't make sense to me. Invite others to bump yourself up in the beta ranks...If anything, when GameSalad opens up to a more public beta, PRO's should be considered. I understand that GameSalad contains a large number of PRO users and I also understand that the GS Team probably doesn't want that many people in the beta, but I would hope that the most applicable PRO users be chosen. After all, they are PRO users for a reason.
This is just my two cents - I'm not saying this to stir the pot nor start discussion about this now. If GameSalad continues on their course for choosing beta members, am I going to get angry? No! I might be slightly disappointed, but I've been wanting features that this tool will provide. I'm not going to decide not to support or use the tool if they continue on their selection route. I'm super excited!

Well, I presume the point is to generate as much interest in the product as possible, and by leveraging the community to "spread the message" they essentially get free advertising. This become moot if they give Pro users priority, and I assume they figured the free advertising was too good a chance to pass up. Perhaps they didn't consider fully how annoying this would be to Pro users.
They clearly do want as many people as possible in the beta, though. I can't imagine they'd push to get everyone to sign up their mum and their dog only to then severely limit entry. Unless they're taking a cue from Cartmanland.

They don't only need GS users to adopt the new engine but they are competing with 20 other game engines. The more GS users and new users the better.
So I'm sure they will try to win over current GS users and expand to new users.
GS users NEED graphene to succeed to keep the lights on.
At any moment you could click on GS website and get "no link found".
Graphene is coming and looking forward to it and will support it.

Agreed, although i understand the advertising standpoint their going for like @Armelline stated, I can easily climb to number 1 referrer by using email bots and fake registrations in a matter of minutes. ( i will not do that obviously).
I am still too depressed from a deal so close with a major publisher that went sour because of "GS limitations". Maybe Graphene will be my ticket and other peoples tickets to evolving as a dev.
Not saying i should be considered, but maybe start thinking about the users who had a chance to make huge deals. Having a dev being part of a major publisher would be huge advertising on its own.
I think im rambling now, not a good day... Here is to 2015 being better.
