> 1st "mini" app: Mega Clock Alarm Date & Timer Deluxe

Hi guys, as some of you know, I decided a few months back to finish all my small apps first before carrying on with my major ones (some of these major ones have been "simmering" for over a year and a half - even two years – now...)

So I've almost completed the first of these mini apps (at least another 6 or 7 or even more mini apps to follow, possibly one every month, or less time).

Here's a demo of just the Clock, Alarm and Date section of this one; the Timer section will be finished relatively soon. Still some work to do on the Clock page as well, but almost there. This utility app should be ready to upload to iTunes in a week or less.

Hope you like it; any comments welcome, thanks:

This is cool, but it will be hard for this app to get noticed over the tons of other such utilities on the app store. Just my opinion ;)

Hi @Zenith_Digital You are so right! I can't disagree with that observation at all.

These mini apps I just feel I have to "get out of my system" and when they are all out of the way, I'll feel psychologically better-equipped to carry on with my major projects. Maybe a strange thing for you to hear, I don't know!

Especially as I'm not expecting to earn much money, if any, from these mini apps.... it's just something I've gotta do..... :-)

One point to add: some of the other mini apps to follow are relatively original to me - i.e there aren't any others of their type already in the store (unlike this first one) - but still I'm not expecting to earn much. Just got to get them out of the way.... :bz

@gyroscope - Cool stuff. I agree with @Zenith_Digital, but I can't wait to see some of your larger projects :)

I've always believed in the whole "If you're doing something that others have done, and they've done it better, you're wasting your time" saying but what do I know?

Suppose I wish the App Store had less of this, and more innovative titles.

Sorry dude, not dropping my hate on you specifically, just the whole App Store philosophy.

You're welcome to your opinion of course, @DepressedPanda and I know you're not "dropping your hate" on me specifically...

Still, I like to think that I've put a different slant on the clock, timer thing here... find me one with the same amount of user editing as my take on it and I'll change my mind; whether or not I think that's better than the others with my editing capabilities/sounds choices, etc., I've included, that's not for me to say...though it can be seen as adding something extra that the others haven't got....

Don't know what else to add really.... I think this little app is different enough from the other clocks and timers to warrant an addition in the Utilities section of the app store, and you don't, and it appears to offend you because the basic idea in itself isn't original.... so we'll agree to differ in our opinions there. :-)

Cheers, Thomas; yes, as I wrote earlier, this isn't meant to "rock the earth" it's something I had to get out of my system.... (and upsetting someone else already by it!.... ;-) )

Thanks; and I can't wait to get back to them.... 6 months time, when all these mini apps are out of the way, there'll be no stopping me.... :-)

Me too; it'll never stop; there'll always be different versions of basic themes... always has been, always will be as you know... :-)

I'm going to take your word for it that you have the most configureable clock, in that case I say bravo. I'm perfectly fine with making the best of anything, I'm just against 60 of the same app that does the SAME THING. Program on!

Not bad for a change. I was thinking of making a world clock app with gamesalad but could not really work out on how to do it, especially the states where there are weird time changes. This looks good.

Maybe you can get the graphic improve a little. IMO, it looks a bit ugly, but that is just my opinion.

I like all the customization options. Pretty cool. I'd prefer to see the seconds presented as two-digits :00 :01 :02 etc.

OK, cheers, @DepressedPanda :-) I know where you're coming from with those same app/same thing clones though.

Which of the graphics in particular do you find ugly, @PBGames? (There aren't that many, but I still can't guess...)

    Thanks as well, @tatiang :-)

Do you know, that's been in the back of my mind right from the start.... well spotted; thanks for bringing it to the front of my mind! I'll change the hours, minutes and seconds to 2 digits if they're under 10 when I've finished and ready to tweak. Thanks v.m . :-)

I find the font a little pixelated along with the background. Maybe it is meant to be that.

This is neat! Love all of the different options to choose from. Well done, man! Love the sounds, too. I'll defo download ASAP, it'll make a nice addition to my collection. :)

No, not meant to be like that although it's safe to say Display Text will look so much better and sharper on the iPad... the video quality doesn't do the fonts any favours, and also, being recorded from GSC preview, the fonts are slightly less quality there as well, compared with what actually shows on devices.... so it'll all be OK for the app quality; thanks!

Hi, just a quick update for your interest:

This so-called "mini" app has turned out to be not so mini.... partly my own fault, because I keep adding features... anyhow, aiming for another week then finished. (I know, I said that a month ago...) :-)

Here's a vid. showing the finished Alarm, which now includes messages as well as alarm sounds, and also the latest feature I've added: a random button, which works quite well for randomly selecting editing parameters.

P.S Message to @tatiang Hi, I still haven't amended the times to include the zeros; and I probably won't be doing this, because of the way I set up the Display Text behaviours to take into account the sizes, colours, HMS or HM display as well use of colon or not, there are many hundreds of them to add the zero info to, and I doubt I'll get around to doing this.... soI'll live with the single figures if below 10; but thanks again for the suggestion! :-)

    Hi David,

Wow, must say - fabulous job on this. It's really come a long way! I use alarm apps all the time, so I'll be sure to pick yours up as soon as it hits the store. Looking forward to it!

@gyroscope Turns out there's a really simple fix for that. PadInt(game.Clock.Second,2).

    @gyroscope
The alarm only works if the user has the app open right?
  • gyroscopegyroscope I am here.Member, Sous Chef, PRO Posts: 6,598

@Braydon_SFX Thanks very much, Bray, your encouragement is always appreciated. :-)

@tatiang Thanks, yes I was thinking of using PadInt(game.Clock.Second,2); but as far as I can see, this would need to replace every instance of the second (and minute) shown in the Display Text behaviours, and as I say there's got to be over 400 of them. Still, I might find the time/patience....

@PBEmpire Yes, the alarm will only work with the app open. I'm not sure any app, made with GameSalad Creator or not - can open automatically at a set time; even if so, apps made with GSC don't have that ability.

I think one of the main uses anyway would be to have the iPad with this app running next to your computer (apart from the more obvious uses!)

@gyroscope, in that case, no offense but i may see a chance of this being rejected, because of apple's wonderful guidelines of not being too simplistic.
I tmay be rejected because of 10.6 guideline, where it tells the user to use push notifications etc for the app, in your case, to notify the user that the time is up.
Other than that all is well. My 2c

@PBEmpire Thanks for your opinion! Interesting that you think Apple might think this too simplistic; to be honest, I can't see how you think that (see screenshot); we wait to see. :-) ....

(There's another "level" too for Timers including countdowns and count ups in the app). And I'll also be making the alarm messages editable soon, as well.

Hi, for certain reasons which I won't bore you with, I put aside Mega Clock Alarm Date & Timer Deluxe, despite it being not far off being finished... I'm back onto it now, and just for the record, thought I'd mention it'll be "knocked on the head" in no more than a week.

So if you're interested when it's in the iTunes store, please check back in this thread in a week's time, cheers.

Ha! No worries at all. :-) Out of the millions of loops there are, I wonder what the chances are the same one is used by more than 1 person, using the same platform? :-)

looks really nice :) good luck with it
Thank you v.m, @timolapre1998 - as I mentioned months ago, I can't wait to finish this one and the other smaller apps I have so I can be absorbed working on my major projects again. I'd better get my skates on... ;-)
