Yeah, could be. Thing is I have witnessed your grief first hand here in these threads when some blockhead just decided to take and use your stuff without asking. I don't like seeing that happen to you or anyone for that matter. Maybe I'm just seeing more potential theft with the courtesy images that you provide (which are kewl and I respect that you do this on your own for nada in return).
@ thread in general
Yeah, nothing much we can do about images once they are stolen even when they are registered, but I recently had a company that was using an advertising campaign on the east coast that borrowed heavily from characters and objects I had created. They fell under the "striking similar" category in legal mumbo jumbo. While the images were not pulled, I have the assurance of the VP that the similarities won't happen again. I have copyright protection, so I had some heft to my swing with dealing with their legal and marketing departments. If I had the $, was a large conglomerate, and a dic* I probably could have made a huge legal mess out of it, but I was satisfied knowing that no one was going to steep on each other's toes and that the contracted design firm got a schooling from their client.
When I say watermark, I don't mean a couple little transparent ownership titles more like, the whole thing is non-useable unless someone is freak-show good at photoshop. As for assets in a template, still, I don't see why not just replacing the original assets (from your game upon which the template is based) with simplified instructional type graphics. Sure it may take some effort to replace these, but not much effort/time to make them, as it is sure better than generic actor blocks (and you could reuse these in other templates). But, that's just what I would do and I have zero interest in templates or selling templates. There is just too much room for others to ride the wave you stared and you get zero credit in the end. That just goes against my philosophy.
And good one on tarnishing his name, he deserved it! :-?
Someone should post it in "his" game review, before it gets taken down, in case it wasn't already (sorry didn't read all the thread!). Hopefully it will spread the message.
