I'm going to be controversial - I have much love for both Illustrator (industry standard) and Inkscape (got to love the freeness and great @spriteattack tutorials!). But my favourite at the moment is iDraw - just the right balance of features, simple to use in a modern and reasonably priced app. Plus there's a companion iPad app, and it all syncs great using dropbox.
I use inkscape but never used illustrator. If I had the chance though I would probably use illustrator over inkscape. But as said before its the artist not the program.

But my brothers have always been good at art (They do that kind of thing at Uni and college). Me on the other hand.. i can't do art to save my life.
