- Would I buy this app over other similarly priced apps in the appstore? (honestly, if you only had 99c to spend) - Is there a market for this kind of game? (check applyzer/appannie ranks for similar games and see if they are selling any. - Does my game play better than the other similar apps? - Does the game look as good as the games across the store at 99c that are selling well?
I think it would be pretty tough to honestly answer 'yes' to all of these questions, but 1 or all of these could be holding back sales.

No, I don't think it is the limitation of GameSalad. I feel like GameSalad is limiting (feature & performance wise), but if you optimize your game enough, & don't need any features that GameSalad does not currently support, you should be just fine. Whether it is GameSalad, Corona, or Torque; any SDK will limit you. If you want to have the freedom of doing everything yourself, I recommend you go to Xcode. Beware, you will have to do all memory management etc, which is not very exciting. If your apps don't need the features that GameSalad does not currently support, then take the time to optimize your app the best you can & you'll be just fine!
Here's a suggestion, why don't you contact the charity that you would like to donate to and explain to them what you are doing for them and have them advertise your app on their site.
Many people who are donating to this charity will visit the site and see your app there and might download it (if they are convinced that it is for a good cause). Also you might even get a sponsor that would like to help or work with you for other good causes.
