@sdsmith64 - Do you mean the Bird itself or the Power and Angle indicator that shows your last shot taken?

on the Power and Angle indicator.

You just set the color to white or black, then lower the opacity. I think that is what you are talking about for the ghost effect.

no...after you make a shot there is a recording of your shots angle and power as a ghosted image. The shooter actor is still the same color and opacity for the next shot.

@NextGen, is your icon a mexican cockroach?

HAHA! It's the icon for an upcoming game for a client.

oooooh... I thought you were asking about the graphics. haha! not the code. Ya that effect is pretty neat. I would imagine that you have 2 real attributes, and name them width and height. Every shot you change those attributes to the width and height of the circle of your last shot. And do the same thing for the rotation of the arrow that shoots the bird. but you would probably need to interpolate the attribute because it transitions to it.

Honestly that was a feature that I really wanted as I felt in this kind of game it was essential to know what to change for your next shot. I couldn't figure out how to do it just right, so I asked TShirtBooth for some one on one help.

He fixed me up with just what I needed. If your brain is fried trying to do something, I highly recommend his one on one help. His price was well worth it, because it literally saved me many frustrating hours trying to achieve the effect I was going for.

Bought it and played it. Pretty fun. Leaving a review now. How are day 4 sales? Did you get any boost in sales from PRMac or other services?
  • RodrigoPerezRodrigoPerez Member Posts: 212
@rodh100 Sorry I missed your question there :) but yes I have used Blender before. That's what I was originally going to use but for what I was going to do(meaning no complex polygon meshes) I found it way more efficient to use Photoshop's Repousse Tool. It's kind of like coding a simple platformer in C# when you could use GameSalad to achieve the same results in a fraction of the time.

@Unept I'm just as curious as you are about the effect of PRMac.com and I'll be posting the results when the sales report comes in.

Hey, nice game, I think this is the best to come out of gamesalad so far. If you would look at this topic (http://gamesalad.com/forums/topic.php?id=28993), I would definitely write a free review for the game if you liked and I would post it on the twitter.

I'd also like to know how pr mac it does because I want to hire a large pr firm and I want to see what this will do before I pay the big bucks.

Thanks for the info. I am also interested to hear about the sales report. BTW how long did it take you to make this game?
  • RodrigoPerezRodrigoPerez Member Posts: 212
Well nothing impressive here's the first 5 day finance report.

Bouncing Birds! from concept to App Store took three months.

Are these figures the reason why some are focusing on Templates instead of working on other games?

Is it that the boat has passed and indie devs are now destined to fail on the App Store due to no brand presence? Is Tiny Wings really an anomaly??

    Really has me thinking now....

This is what I am scared off. I am submitting my game to apple app store tonight and really scared of failure after 7 months of hardworking.

$21 A day average on 1 app isn't bad. I would love to have each one of my apps generating $21 a day!

yeah if it keeps up it you won't be a millionaire but that's $630/mo
  • RodrigoPerezRodrigoPerez Member Posts: 212
I'd be happy with that if it is consistent but unfortunately that usually isn't the case with apps. Who knows though, I haven't even had one blog review Bouncing Birds! yet so maybe that can change things. I have my fingers crossed :)

Here's my two cents. This game is great. Amazing 3D graphics. Nice gameplay. Great polish. Now all you need is for apple to make it N&N or to get some internet buzz on the bigger sites.

The problem: the icon looks like a cheap angry birds rip-off. If I saw this icon I would assume that it was made by some punk kid trying to trick me out of my buck.

If I were you I would give it another week and if you get nothing I would pull it off the store come up with a new main character that is original and make a new icon and a new name. Keep all the other graphics the same.

I think you are really close to a hit - but I think people see the icon and the name and just think "meh, there are already 3 angry bird games in the top 10. I'm not going to bother to even look at rip-off that's not made by the angry bird guys."

Best of luck, I like the game!

I reckon you are correct. Without a budget for a good PR push, your game vanishes or is left to the dice roll of getting featured by apple. My game started at like 80+ sales on day one and have since tapered off to about 1 or 2 a day if I'm lucky.

Been knocking on the review site doors, but no one is answering.

It might happen, so be prepared for that. I'm not trying to burst your bubble or anything, just trying to help you avoid what I went through. I spent about six months on my game and so far it's flopped. It was a really depressing few days until I had to pick myself up and force myself to keep at it.

    It's tough out there.

    Hi Dizko,

80+ sales on day one sounds great to me, I'd be over the moon with that! Was that with Cloudy Adventure?
My first game has done pretty rotten - but I think plenty of lessons have been learned, so I'll be giving this game making lark one more shot.
  • DizkoDizko Member Posts: 498
    @Digi-chain

Yes that was with Cloudy Adventure. And I don't disagree, 80+ on release day was pretty nice, but that was pretty much it. Fizzled out rather quickly.

For most developers, I think the goal is to have some sort of sustained sales. I would much rather trade a high spike for a more sustained sales rate.

I agree sustained sales are the best.

that's what i've been trying to tell him for i dunno how long and he probably think i'm just a jerk off that's trying to put him down... sigh... such is life on game salad.

seriously, if you invested that much time, would it hurt to spend a few more days to come up with an original story/ character... i mean... no one else is hurt by bad sales more than yourself... c'mon buddy just listen to me for king kong's sake.. if only you know how much people pays me to listen to me tearing their project apart... i'm giving u my earnest feedback for free man... free...nata.. as a fellow gs user.. hope your next game is a blast. originality compensates well my friend.

first impression is important. there's currently a game called cordy on iPad, with great review, basically it's a rip-off of big little world (if i remember the name correctly, i haven't played it for a while) but first impression you can't tell.. until you start playing it... so there's difference, of being accused of ripping off or actually ripping off... it's like if you are going to judge and you are being told to wear dress and nice tie... who's to argue that you can't wear t-shirt.

it really is a fun game man... just pick and choose who to listen to next time. your buddy or the lawyer deals with the case everyday...
  • RodrigoPerezRodrigoPerez Member Posts: 212
@scitunes Thanks for the advice, I might have to to do just that, but only after an earnest marketing effort to see if that's what it takes to jump start Bouncing Birds!

Well I bought $50 of Facebook ads, they're CPC ads meaning I only pay when the ad is clicked, not just for impressions.

Has anybody tried Facebook advertising before? If so what was your experience with it?

Holy Moly! Facebook is serious lol.. So my Bouncing Birds! ad has been active for about 4 hours now and here are the stats:

    Unique Views: 20,803
    Clicks: 17
    Price per click: $0.78
    CTR: 0.072%

I'm interested to see tomorrow if those clicks translated into sales.

So you have to pay them per each click? How does that work, do you give them $100? and then it just up the credit?
