pmG's "Dare To Share" $10 Challenge:

Read the rules. You don't get the software instantly, but you can get a powerful tool for 10$. Sick:) Thought this might be useful for some GS users.

Thanks. ... I'd like to type more but can't because I ave to head over there NOW! ..............
but for this price its probably worth buying just to see what you think...
Project Messiah, especially the pro version which can do hair (plus other things) is a steal at 50 bucks!

it's by no means a full 'fully fledged' 3D package like Cinema 4D, 3DsMax, Maya etc.
So you'd need to either buy another package to model in, or buy models somewhere else.
If you're looking for a truly inexpensive (read: free) package that does all, Blender is the way to go..
(But has a horrible GUI and is by far intuitive)
If you're coming from an artistic background Cinema 4D is the most user friendly one of all,
but after their latest product update also (IMHO) became very expensive (although it does not involve the ridiculous Autodesk licensing program though, it's a one shot deal)
My 2 cents (what the hell am I doing here anyways!?)
I'm in ... too bad the blenderartists site is down for a few days ... there would have been some customers there for that price!
@UP,
i feel sorry for those who have to learn this software if one doesn't have prior experience with another package such as blender or lightwave!
PM is amazing but if someone is new to this, expect a few years of hard work, trial and error!
There are no shortcuts when it comes to character animation
That's right, 3D has a steep learning curve overall, takes years to learn for sure and character animation is a very specific discipline by itself (well, rendering / lighting / texturing amo also really). But I thought I'd point it out before people start signing up after reading BARGAIN and seeing some great images in their gallery… It's nothing like that without years of experience. But I know I'm SO totally ordering… :-)
@thondon
Thanks for pointing this out btw!
What do you guys think of theyr business model? That is quite aggressive to go from 1500 to 500 to 40!
Let's hope that they reach their goal!
Fingers crossed X

hope all of you my age find that site a bit useful

Why not download the demo (available on their site) and try for yourself?
A review (video) doesn't tell you how YOU like it... (there's many videos on their site also)
For sure amazing stuff can be done with this program, but in the end it all depends on the user.

I think the progress bar has moved too! YAY!

but the mac version was always mac!
A few years ago, I frequented a forum and there were a few mac users ... i don't think that back then, the emulators were as powerful as they are today and no one mentioned anything about that.
But i didn't have a mac then .... because i lived in the dark ages!
Downloaded the demo, checked package and YUP, you get CrossOver for 'free'..
Now actually... THAT's a bargain... ;-P
Not nice of them not to mention this on their site (unless somewhere 'hidden' maybe).
And I wonder if it would smoothly also, haven't tried yet..
And if not, if it would run through Parallels or some other emulator.
Anyways.. I just hate non-native apps and having to run them through an emulator!
while I don't like to do that ether, in this case it might be ok because "they" were able to make all the necessary changes and do the testing so that it works. Because they did that for Linux, it was probably the quickest way to go.
I also remember that the app is pretty stable so i wouldn't worry about it.
So what if rendering is 2% slower? (assuming you have hair on your mesh)
It is a steal at that cost!
Hopefully many will participate and become "clean" in the process
No one could explain why?
Of coarse if you tried it and it was slow ... how can I argue? I'm sure in a few days we all know more.
The weird thing is that if they cancel, they have to pay us back. That will cost them because pay pal charges 3%
Will see ....
Is your mac a recent model?
If you're 'new' to 3D and are seriously about to embark on learning a package from the bottom up, I'd recommend Blender. It's free, so you don't lose out if you decide it's not for you - All future updates are free, so if you decide it is for you, it gets even better for free, and it's actually amazingly good - and getting better on a very regular basis, did I mention for free?
I've looked at a few of the Messiah videos, and can pretty confidently say that Blender can do everything I've seen in those videos at least as well as Messiah, and it also does a whole lot more - as Up said, Messiah is only for animation and rendering. Blender is awesome at animation and rendering, and also awesome at modeling, unwrapping, texture painting, you get the message.
I am not paid by Blender. It just upsets me to see people paying money for stuff and missing out on how cool Blender is for - FREE!
If this continues, we could learn the answer (if our deal is a deal or not) sometime next week?
Yup, gonne try the demo for a sec, but it needs to be REALLY buggy to prevent me from getting this promo anyways! It's a great deal nevertheless! (it's more of a principal kinda thing, yeah it's sad)
And I shave so, no hair on my mesh, no issues there, will be running full speed ;-P
My current app I use for rendering does not have hair so to ge this via PM5 is a dream come true!
The only way I have to advertise my 10 apps for children is to create animations for my web pages so I really look forward to that deal.
Unfortunately, the work it takes to crank out a few seconds is akin of mKing 30 GS apps.
I wish I had a twin! :-)
(Unless you're making the next Donkey Kong Country type extraviganza!)
I wish some other software companies would "Dare to Share" ;-)>
and price their software at an afordable level.
(Should ANYthing really be more than $100? It's a disc and a book in a box.)
I'm trying to teach a computer class with mainly open source software,
but it really is not easy.
How do I explain to the kids - we can't afford Adobe?
(Yes, we might get into GS at some point!)
