Sorry for the double post, I just wanted to announce the game properly, feel free to delete the other one...

Dragon Fire is Now Out:

Dragon Fire: Una's Quest - Retro Top Down Shooter for iPhone and iPod Touch

Dragon Fire: Una's Quest follows the story of a young Dragon who must fight her way through through the various lands of Krytok defeating hordes of enemies to reach the Evil Queen Hydra. Each land is protected by a multiple headed Dragon princess and it's unusual general. Una is the only one who knows Hydra's true plan to steal the 'Dragon Spark' from each princess to have the ultimate knowledge.

Dragon Fire: Una's quest in a retro inspired top down shooter across 14 exciting levels including seas, forests, deserts, mountains, ice plains until its final climactic end in the volcanoes on Krytok. There are various powers up which include rapid fire, speed boosts, and phoenix fire. By defeating the end of level boss gives Una the power to grow additional heads to increase her fire power.

The game has vibrantly colorful graphics with a crazy selection of weird and wonderful enemies from flying pigs to stomping cyclops reminiscent of the classic game Parodius. Mix this with awesome style of Pop 'n' Twin Bee and you have an action packed fun shoot em up for the iPhone and iPod Touch.

Collect stars throughout the game to unlock three pig related mini games; Piggy Bank Plinko, Slippy Pig's Castle Escape and Protect the Pigs.

The game can be played with a D-Pad or Joystick and with a plethora of options this game can be played again and again.

So help young Una battle her way through the army of quirky creatures, and collect the dragon sparks and bring peace back to the land.

What did you do the video trailer in?
  • MotherHooseMotherHoose Member Posts: 2,456
    Absolutely stunning on iPad!

    ::Scores...Where is Pig Run?

    ::About
    J-stick…
thought it was a joy stick…stead auto fire and and touch screen
    which is phenomenal playing
felt D-pad was difficult to control on iPad because distance between buttons
    Back button covers sheep.

    ::Mini Game
after the first Retry the only option on game over is [Retry] and must restart to get back to Main Menu.
Plinko was open before 200 stars
Tower was open though < 200 stars

Oh the music is so gooooood!
    and the graphics!
and the play! retro and still looks and feels modern.
love being able to access any level … I'm good in ice scenes; lousy in fire scenes.
    when I get 6 heads, I really kick a$$.
    so happy with my purchase!

Thank you, Ian, for making this one!

    Ian...
the second mini game is titled Tower Escape

..little things I pointed out don't interfere with playing the game... that is pure fun!

graphics on iPad are super...1x or 2x play is good... so don't really need iPad version.

thank Keith...trailer is the best intro to game.

yeah man. I got the same bug.
On the plinko game when you have retried once, you only get the option to retry (and not quit) when you run out of coins.
Also...when I hit retry that first time, it stopped the music.

Also.. the back button on the about page covers up QS's name ;o)

It plays nice and smooth. The scrolling and graphics look really really good etc ;o)

    /hijack thread a sec
Mootherhoose....glad you like the music ;)

    Sparks.

    bah.. sorry man.
just found another odd couple of bugs :

Just paused the game, when I hit the pause again, it still said pause, even though it was un-paused.....so I paused again, and it did, but wouldn't let me unpause, but the main menu button worked and let me quit.

    strange one

I only have 147 stars, but minigame 2 is unloackd now!

Thanks BB, you're a star, I have 3 reviews in the UK store and 1 in the US store.... i hired a 'press release' writer who writes something and sends it to people so hopefully when she gets going it might improve...

Should I make a website for the game... I can't decide...

Do you go to game websites often?

    what are the benefits?

I think it all helps, Ian. At the very least, have a game page somewhere, even if it's as part of your main site or something.

    Hope that helps!

Its obvious a lot of work has gone into the game, so hope it does well for you.

I have to say though, that Im not overly keen on the controls, and think they might turn out to be an issue with customers.

They seem a little confusing in their naming... D-Pad and Joystick.

For the Dpad, I think the controls are too spaced out, and taking up a lot more of the screen than they need to... a traditional D-pad would normally have them all close together in a cross that can easily be controlled by one thumb. I think this is what most customers will expect.

Again, for the Joystick, I was expecting something along the lines of an analogue stick...similar to the Codemonkey joystick example. Your Joystick control is more of a point/drag around system, and gets quite fiddly when your finger/hand gets in the way as you move it around the screen.

Overall its a nicely polished game, so just mentioning the controls as I think its a potential weakpoint that might benefit from some tweaking.

Funnily enough, I implemented the joystick variation of the controls for Ian on this game.
It's the Codemonkey Joystick example - the variant that moves the joystick base's origin to wherever you touch the screen!

I agree that your hand gets in the way sometimes - I'm investigating how to make it a bit better for my own game, and will obviously apply any findings I have to Ian's!

    Cheers,

    QS :D
