@TymeMaster: I would say that the play time is roughly about an hour. It will vary of course based on your skill at playing these types of games. This one is generally on the easier side.
Two hours now and I am stuck in the mansion! The tree is open with the two light beams, I have matches (have fire in fire place), fish bowl and left+right paper ends. I'm stuck! LOL
I cant open the door next to the stairs I cant figure out the globe
I played it a few times in Safari and always have the same problem, this may be a clue as to why it goes to a black screen.
I know the combo is 42-34-15. You do 42 CCW (Counter Clockwise), then 34 CW (clockwise) and while doing this the two bottom numbers spin. No matter how many times I try, I can never get it to accept the second number (34). If you click back, and then try to leave the study, it locks up on a black screen every time.
It appears to somehow be tied to the logic for the combo lock, as I said it never accepts the second number.
TymeMaster, please be aware where and when you create your posts. I moved it from "Working with GameSalad" to "Announce Your Game!" and merged it with FMG's announcement. Thanks.
@TymeMaster: I'm guessing that you got past where you were stuck? (since you have found the safe). I'll check on the safe mechanism. I may have broken it while trying to fix the black screen issue.
And I just got a black screen with an adhoc build. Drat! Oh well, I will keep at it!
Yes, I was at the safe but it never accepted the 2nd number. I turn CCW to 42, that always works, then when I start turning CW, both bottom numbers spin in sync (top one at 42 stays). But it never accepts 34 and gives me control of only the bottom number.
Here is another thing that happened. Once when clicking RESET, it set all 3 numbers to zero but would not let me edit the first nubmer (it stayed at 0 while the bottom 2 turn).
There is definately a problem with the safe, if I can find out more info I will post it here.
Yeah, the safe has definitely gone crazy. I'll rip it apart and rebuild it...
I am afraid that that room has become corrupted somehow. I have moved stuff around and rebuilt sections so many times over the past few months, that I'm thinking the safe and that room have become old and broken. The safe was the first thing I built.
That sounds like a good idea, just rebuild that room. It's a pain in the ass but if it is a dead end you're gonna piss off a lot of people, and that would be a shame for a damn fine game you have there.
Best of luck with it, looking forward to buying it.
When you play the game, keep in mind that there are only 12 total actors in the game. Crazy to think about when you see how many rooms/areas/objects there are and they are all done by those 12 actors. Who said GS requires no programming? This thing is a programming powerhouse.
Fantastic work Joe, took me about 90 minutes to complete and I could not put it down for even a second of that. After you squash the last of the bugs this thing needs to get out. The people NEED to play this one.
The desktop version does not do this thing justice, wait till you see it on the device!
Totally Awesome. Could you share what size your full screen graphics are? I am working on my first very simple app and have only 3 Fullscreen pictures which are 960x640 pixels. These take up over 3 MB combined. I chose this size so that the app would be iPhone 4 compatible. Should I downsize?
For this game I am not using retina display-sized graphics. They are all 480x320. (The iPhone4 came out after I started working on this game)
My game is extremely graphics-heavy - it uses over 500 graphics. I am quite proud to say that the game weighs in at just 13MB. I wanted the game to be able to be downloaded over the 3G network, which imposes a 20MB limit. If I used retina display graphics, there is no way I could pull it off.
I'm not sure whether you should downsize or not. The iPhone 4 looks gorgeous! If you can, I would design your game for it.
The bug has been smashed! The game has been resubmitted to Apple!
I totally redesigned and rebuilt the safe. It now uses 3 sliders instead of a dial. The dial was just too finicky. You were able to break it way too easily.
The web game has now been updated with the new version. If you played before and encountered the "black screen", that is now fixed and you should be able to get past it:

I'm stuck at exactly the same place! It's so frustrating -- I've been here for about an hour now. I can't find the clue in the study! I'm going to have another go at it tomorrow after some sleep...
Thanks Man. I think I will downsize for my simple app. I have both iPhone4 and 3 and I don't think that you noticed that much of a difference. I chose the larger size so that it would look good on the iPad as well.
Thanks for the tip, Joe! I'm enjoying myself quite a lot.
I love puzzles and mysteries. I grew up reading stuff like Encyclopedia Brown, The Hardy Boys, and the Three Investigaors. I still love mystery novels to this day.
You must've had a lot of fun making this. There are so many funny parts -- it has made me laugh out loud a few times and, if you can see me, I'm grinning from ear to ear as I'm playing. It's creative and so enjoyable.
It's a shame I'm going to be rushing about this weekend because I would like to just sit still and play Grisly Manor until I can solve it.
I'll be sure to buy it when it's released though, and tell all my friends about it.
tshirtbooth is right: you have it all -- creativity, programming skills, and business acumen.

Anyway, I am teasing you! The game is great!

Go to safe, play with the numbers for a few seconds
Click BACK
Click the door frame to exit study
BAM, black screen

Thanks for testing it for me!

It's going to kick ass.
I have made a new project with just the study room and I can get it to crash consistently.
Somehow the safe mechanism is breaking the back button. Odd. But at least now I can zero in on the issue without going nuts.
I like the game and all, but testing it has been like watching the same movie five hundred bajillion times...
Hopefully the black screen will meet its match soon.

I hate you.
I showed my colleague Jake your game on the GS website.
No work has been done today.
Thanks. Thanks a bunch.

Thanks for all the kind words and support!

Just kidding, grats, can't wait to play!
I have to slow the kids down somehow!
Here is a clue for the upstairs study:
What you need is currently hidden from view, but can be made visible.
