I spent a little time talking with my kids (9 & 12) about what makes a game interesting, and I was a bit surprised. My young son said that the intro story in Bumps made him want to keep playing. I had rather thought a setup storyline was of little importance.
I have been thinking of starting a thread about on what others think makes a good game. I'd like to know if there are any studies of this age group (I'm sure the big companies do it).
If someone made a platformer with pretty much the same game logic as the classic Mario side-scrollers it would be great! Have any of you seen the game Pizza Boy? Its climbing up the top 200 - 100 leader-boards fast. That is the kind of game I would play.
That's past my target for this one and the rankings still look pretty good for tomorrow. Maybe Darren will be right and it might reach 1000 in the next few days, that'd be awesome.
I was expecting the top 10 to be full of card matching games!
Which reminds me...
Seriously though, sincere congrats! You've actually inspired myself and a friend to make a quick, simple, game!
I was aiming for 1 day, total development, but I just can't do it! I do have a working prototype though within two days and I'm *trying* to keep it simple. We start level building soon-ish!
Congrats Stu! Have you made two versions or just check independent resolution? I think IR make it automatic, then I see HD version has a diferent icon. Regards, Riffel
The hd version is iPad the iPhone version does not use RI as making sure of image sizes would have added to dev time for minimal benefit in this kind of game
I'll let you know what a top 10 overall apps is worth in Thailand and the Philippines tomorrow, has been sitting between 8 and 10 in both stores most of today.

I'm playing iPhone version. But after stage result screen does't show up. It goes directly to the help screen. Is this normal? It's not like the trailer. But still good idea.

Not sure how this happened, the ad hoc version on my phone is fine. Seems the change scene got confused in the final build, surprised no one else mentioned it. I have an update in approval now to fix it.
Well I think tomorrow will be my last day of sales data for this one as it will have been a full 7 days and it's sales are dropping off now. I'm sure people are bored of reading this anyway now.
Seems a top 10 position in overall apps in the thailand and philippines is worth about 20 sales!
Well congrats stu on the success and thanks for Keeping us posted. I check your thread more than I check my sales, lol! So due to. The success you going to push some updates later when it slows down and try to get new comers? I think it sounds like a good one for updates to keep it under new releases.
I was wondering what your background before GS (ie have you ever made games before etc) was and how profitable you've found it? I'm toying with the idea of getting a Mac in order to join GS.
There are three of us in my department at work interested in using GS to make games. I work in digital comms (Marketing), and there is also a writer/editor that also makes music and a graphics designer.

Hi,
I have never made games before using game salad. I started about 7 weeks ago. However, I do have a strong background in video production, editing and photoshop. Also general computer nerdery with most major software apps and platforms and make it my business to try to learn new ones as often as I can.
To be honest, the most important skills I have found are using photoshop and audio editing software. GameSalad only takes a few weeks to learn pretty well (obviously not all the complex maths), but years spent with graphics and audio software is a real plus.
So on the final day the ipad version has overtaken the iphone one.
Total sales for the week are : 983
So a little summary on this test. Well, first thing is that I am extremely pleased. While first week sales are not as high as Hotel Rush was, that one took me a week to make and this one just a day. This also proves a point about genre and the market we have on itunes. We have an eager to purchase market of, probably, younger people and kids who like the cutesy simulation type games. While I am sure there is a market for shooters and classic arcade type games, the customers are older and much more picky. For me it has made me realise that time spent on a title has to be proportional to how sure i am about the concept. No more spending 2 weeks or more making a game I am not sure will sell or not.
There is quick and easy money out there to be made if you don't mind selling your soul and making something simple that is fashionable at the time and has appeal to kids and teenage girls.

As expected it is down a bit at:
Cake Bake HD - 65
Cake Bake - 58
Still over $400 gross for 3 days. Target was $500 so might be there by tomorrow.
What about the same style as Knights Rush?
Yeah you certainly have your market and should stick to it imo.
I'm wondering if it's possible to make a game in a day and hit the top 100
Darren.
Day 4 looks like this:
Cake Bake - iphone - 98
Cake Bake HD - 74
Total units sold in 4 days are now: 611
