And iPad promo: H6MMMEENFWRX
Will review tonight!
Good luck with sales can't w8 to hear it made $500 in 1 day!
Darren.
@utopian funny you say that I have decided to do something more long term. A couple more super casual games with corona and a more in depth rpg esque hack'n'slash on gamesalad.
Will drop a review this evening (or sooner if I get some time). Best of luck!

first day data is in.
It's not quite a full day yet (the iphone version only did about 12 hours in this set of data and the ipad about 16 hours)
Cake Bake - iphone - 71 units
Cake Bake - ipad - 73 units
Not too shabby start at $140 ish gross.
The ranks are currently up today on the day before so expecting higher figures tomorrow.
What category did you post the games in and just curious on where you post besides TouchArcade and here? I am lucky if I get 3-10 sales on release days, granted I think you do a much better job on polishing your art.
Congratulations on the new member of the family AND the good sales.
Dane ( I am going to try to get a IPad promo now and leave you a good review)
This one is posted in Arcade games and simulation. The reason I chose simulation is that cooking mama is in that category, so kinda made sense to me.
I think this is a very neat idea. I had a lot of trouble making a cake, I think the tutorial section on mixing should have a little more detail. I was tapping the mixer really fast trying to make it mix and couldn't make a cake in there first 5 minutes lol. Then I realized you are to touch and hold.
One thing you could do is have a mixing icon pop up to show you are mixing so as they tap they will realize they aren't mixing in between taps? Or you could have then they touch and hold the spoon turns sideways and moves back and fourth. These will be visual clues that the user is doing it correctly.
Great game none the less! I will leave you a review now.
Dane
Now featured in New and Noteworthy for both arcade and simulation categories.
1 Days work will probably net you $1000 by the time the weekend is over, hope it's more!
Great news about N&N.
Keep us updated on sales!
Darren.

Which begs the question in my mind, do I keep making longer games when the app store can be such a lottery and I know from a 'pay per hour' perspective they will earn less?
As expected it was a little rise over yesterday with total numbers at....
Cake Bake - iphone - 92 units
Cake Bake HD - ipad - 80 units
Total shifted so far in 2 days - 316
Roughly a gross figure of $300 allowing for promos and stuff.
All going well so far. The rankings have been really up and down today so hard to predict tomorrow. I expect similar or slightly lower sales. We'll see....
I have actually experimented with what you are doing here and have not had the success you have. My game in a day (actually went over into 2.5 days) was Aquatic Adventures. Prior to that I had spent a month making Political Beatdown. Mostly due to art assets but was also promoting locally and getting feedback.
I think that development times are actually very unrelated to the amount of revenue, it is just the appeal of the product with some luck mixed in. I would prefer your dynamite game over Hotel Rush AND this one but I bet it has the lowest sales (just guessing, not a fact, got to clarify!). I think it is due to the consumers who have these devices.
After the release of this game and looking at your figures I sat down and really looked at my approach to the market. I am trying to make games that a "Gamer" would find somewhat fun AND the casual consumer but I think that leaves a unfulfilled interest to both parties...
I began thinking about the market and I think I have come to a conclusion why the sales of particular popular products are appealing to the "IPhone Consumer" more so than a typical game you would see on an arcade machine or xbox, ect. Unfortunately after typing it all up here I found it to sound rather sexists/maybe insulting to some? It was not my intention so I am going to refrain from going into details on my thoughts of WHY these type of "simulations" are popular but just state that I would venture to guess that females are a much higher ratio of IPhone owners than males. Studies have shown females prefer "casual games" and "simulations games". If you make something that appeals to that market I think you have a much higher success rate and this kind of adds proof to that.
Anyhow, great job StusApps and I think your 24 hour session has helped me more than mine :P. Thanks for sharing with the community and I left you an Ipad review yesterday so hopefully it is up by now.

You're right and it's not sexist that girls tend to play iphone and ipod touch games more than men. Also a lot of our market (particularly with more simplified 2D games without any online elements) are kids. As my regular job I am a primary school teacher with a class of 8 and 9 year olds. Most have an ipod touch or a DS at home and a lot play on mum and dads iphones. I asked them all about actual paid games and most are allowed a certain number of game a week. Moving up the age groups in the school the 11 and 12 year olds download a lot of games. Kids these days also are a little more ....er .... metrosexual in their game tastes. The boys love cooking mama as much as the girls. They all enjoy the time management games, cutesy puzzle type games (angry birds) and the fast tapping skill games. They have little interest in the traditional arcade style games and the only racing game they ever touch is mario kart.
I do see time and time again that people moan about poor sales of their games they have spent a long time making. Really it is simple to look at what works. I have been very slowly working on cafe rush for a while and I know it will sell well even before it's finished because the kids and teenage girls (our market) are playing cafe games all the time on facebook. If someone made a simple island management game (collect fish, get coins, buy food, build buildings, pick up rubbish) it would sell loads. If no one else does I'll do it soon.
I am still very torn for my next bigger game though. I really really want to make an action/rpg on the ipad. But.... I also want to make money. I fear investing a couple of months in something that could completely bomb.
Stu
That's very interesting, and helpful information on what games those age groups like
I'm thinking of working on a time management game too, but I'm going to think about what kind I'd like to make.
I've also been working on a platformer for MONTHS now, and not sure if it's going to pay off... if it doesn't do well, then I'm going back to doing games and apps that I know will sell.... I'm just hoping this one stands out enough that it might get featured... we'll see!
Sent you an email I had some questions for you on the time management apps!
Good stuff
