Thanks for the response. I think I am going to have to break down and buy this.

I was just wondering how complicated does it get?

Do you have an example of a complicated system or something that you could make using what is in your textbook?

Just I'm probably around a mid-skilled GS user, and if your textbook helps to reveal things I didn't realise were possible in GS I'll probably pick it up.

It's written in a more general way, so that your mind is expanded... not just limited to cutting-and-pasting from the book. Throughout the book there are useful examples, but it's not complete step-by-step to build a specific game. Instead, I just scatter the pieces throughout the book. That way, you can be creative in what you want to do with them.

    Examples...
    • how sensors can be used to create puzzles
    • a simpler way to create virtual thumbsticks
    • Artificial Intelligence – a wandering/chasing enemy (like in BOT)
    • Optimization tricks
    • How math (the expressions) can be applied to your games

I don't know how much you'll learn, but it seems to have been very helpful to lots of other GameSalad developers.
  • The Unofficial GameSalad Textbook has been updated to version 1.25 and is now available on the iTunes App Store. This version includes new information for the 0.9.7.1 update of GameSalad.
  • Outstanding... the textbook is back in the "What's Hot" section of Books. The 1.2.5 update seems successful!

I'm not planning on stopping though. During the last two days, I was researching ways to improve the book. The next update should have a new feature... improved text zooming... making the book easier to read. I'm going to wait for the 0.9.8 GameSalad update before launching another update of the book though. I don't think it's good to launch too many updates right away.

Heh... the icon on iTunes Connect is still screwy though... stupid glossy effect. The app icon is OK though. I wrote to Apple about the issue, because I didn't do anything wrong. That's part of publishing on the App Store... sometimes there's bad luck.

Are you going to add any more material to the book itself? Like as new features come out, will you add the how-tos and knowledge you know to the book?
