Do i need to publish my game first before implementing ads?

I am a bit confused; I want to add chartboost into my game but do I need to publish it on Android/Google Play first and then add chartboost as part of an update?

Or can you do it before it's been published?

You add them during the game building and publishing process. No need to wait for an update.
