I handed over my $20 a while back even though the mac version is very new i found out there busy porting there C++ runner to iPad/Phone.
I have been using gamemaker for years it's so easy and very similar to GS (imagine GS but with an option to code and almost every feature you want for a 2d game and that's gamemaker, simply amazing).

I'm a little confused by the "Runner" aspect of it though. Although I assume it's much the same as the GS "Engine"?????
Also be interesting to see how easy/possible it is to add stuff like openfient etc
Search PSP GameMaker in youtube.
Game Maker was the first game making app I used, back when I had a PC.
I downloaded the demo for Mac - and to be honest, I just got really confused. My colleague Jake uses it all the time on PC though, and has made some very cool games!
Hopefully he can make some stuff with GM while I plough on with GS - and we'll flank the app store
Good news though!

I noticed how fast it change scenes in the demo, it was almost instant!

How serious is the development community at yoyo? It looks like it's a load of people using copyrighted material to make their own games for fun - which is fine.
But it makes me wonder what will happen if they get this iphone thing off the ground. Are there people there that make 'proper' games?

I think it's got a very bright future if they get the pricing right.

So my question is - does GM use pngs now?
No details of a release date and pricing etc.
I like the way the demo is 10 hours of non consecutive usage...a really good way to evaluate if it's worth the $25......then again, $25 is uber cheap.
Nonetheless, I'm stoked

are there any decent tutorials for it online? Be interesting to check it out properly.
I loaded it up, and it looks pretty similar to GS, but with some added scripting abilities.
I also think it will be interesting to see how they price the IOS stuff.
At the mo, the software is $25 (cheap), so I can't see them giving away the ability to publish to IOS for nothing (Especially when you consider that YoYo Games have cumulative "debts" of almost £1/2 mill. > http://gamemakerblog.com/2010/08/08/yoyo-games-ltd-almost-break-even-in-year-to-october-2009/
My best guess would be a yearly sub. But they could go down the route of charging "per build" which I am sure some other engines do, or even some kind of publishing via them for casual users, with a higher yearly sub for pro users.
Hard to know really, as it seems like they have only just announced the IOS thing as working.
Looked great from the video though performace-wise (although it didn't look like tooooo performance taxing)
I especially liked how it all loaded and changed scenes/rooms really fast.
Mark.
Not sure about price but if they get it right it will be a winner for sure.

Definintely looks promising!
I found the Game Maker's Apprentice to be a very good instructional book, and theres a more advanced version called the Game Maker's Companion.
I went ahead and purchased the full license, after having played around with it for a few hours. For $25 bucks you really can't lose, and it's good to have alternatives.
Seems pretty nice. Very logical. Fairly similar to "Multimedia Fusion" on the PC.
/comes back to the warm inviting glow of the GS forum
There there, Sparky, you don't want to venture out too far - nasty people live beyond them thar hills...
