Project won't load

I see there has been discussion of this in the forums and found an article that mentions "xml files and after a quick look I tried deleting the prototype strings ".

But I don't know how to find that xml file or how to delete the prototype strings. After a long weekend of work I'd love to have my project back. Any help?

To clarify, GS crashed and when I reopened I had the toolbar and nothing else.

Well, it all felt rather random but I right clicked on the project file to reveal content, double clicked the object file, deleted the last prototype(<prototype>) string, saved it, double clicked the project to open it, nothing, resaved, reopened and it's working.
