Does anybody know of any good software to use to film my desktop, so I can create a promo video? I had a look but most seem to just record still images.

cheers

No problem, just open quicktime player > file > new screen recording.

(The one with the black 'Q'.)

But Can you record a designated area? Or Just the Whole Screen?

Whole screen, then crop it in iMovie.
