Automatic Decision; Prototype

Every time I open an actor on scene it automatically takes me to the prototype of the actor, regardless of whether the actor is a prototype or an instance. This is very confusing, as for the past forever it has automatically taken me to the instance instead of the prototype. (Of the two, taking one to the instance makes more sense, because if you wanted to mess with the prototype you'd click on the actor menu and go down to it; if I click on an actor, it's because I wish to edit that actor.) Is there any way I can change this or is this how it is now? If that's how it is, would someone consider changing it back please? Thanks.

Make a request to the GS team.

I don't use the PC version much but my assumption is that it works the same as the Mac version: when you double-click on an actor on the scene, it opens the actor's rules and if that actor has been unlocked, it shows the instance rules with a button to "Revert to Prototype." If the actor has not been unlocked, it shows the prototype rules with a message to click to unlock the actor (to convert it to an instance).

Is it working differently for you? Any chance you can provide a screenshot of the actor right after you double-click on it in the scene?

Yeah, no problem. I clicked the actor far right up top, it's in a blue block and is supposed to be a dragon egg. Even though I've unlocked the actor so that it's different from the prototype, the instance rules don't pop up (which is the problem I'm after), instead it goes straight to the prototype version. You can't see very well that Backstage has the prototype chosen, so there's another screenshot with it zoomed in.

You can just click the tab at the top to go to the instance.

The reason we changed this is because, in general, it is best to be working with prototype actors, so it saves you a click in that case rather than always going to the instance view and encouraging users to make instance actors when they do not need them.

Thanks for the screenshots, @GreenHavenGames. Hmm, that I don't like. :( @GeorgeGS What about only showing the prototype first if the actor hasn't been unlocked? Otherwise, it really should default to the instance rules since those take precedence over the prototype rules.

Agreed, sounds like a terrible move !

Good idea. George and I were talking about this earlier today. We'll change it so it defaults to instance if you have it unlocked. Sounds good to me!

Not sure about Windows but when I open an actor on the scene it's to adjust settings in the left window; opacity, density, size or adjust self attributes. To be sent automatically to the prototype might be good for new users but We do enough clicking back and forth in GS already...lol

Why not add more text to the lock area "unlocking will disconnect this actor from the prototype" @codewizard

    @Lost_Oasis_Games No, it's a terrible idea! :p Here's the scenario:

User unlocks an actor and changes the instance rules.
    User previews the scene.
User decided to troubleshoot the rules.
User double-clicks the actor, is shown the prototype rules, changes them, and then tests again but... nothing changes.
User writes a post saying that it's not working even when they change the rules.
    ...

Anyway, thanks to @CodeWizard for re-thinking it.

Thanks everyone, and thank you GeorgeGS and CodeWizard for considering that.
