Avira Virus scan says GetGameSalad.exe is a virus
Hi, I'm a Mac user trying to install a freshly downloaded GetGameSalad.exe on windows via Bootcamp. But my Avira virus scanner says it detects a HEUR/APC (Cloud) virus. I am no experienced Windows user but I am guessing I can continue using it or is there something going on here?
Anyone else getting this and what should I do?
Edit: Here is info on the deceted virus:
_HEUR/APC (Cloud)
Description:
HEUR/APC (Cloud) is a heuristic detection routine designed to detect common malware characteristics. Avira AntiVirus recognizes unknown malware proactively. It is based on a file analysis within the Avira Protection Cloud infrastructure.
In the unlikely occurrence of a false positive we would kindly ask for your help and send the file to our virus lab using the quarantine functionality of AntiVirus.
A heuristic detection might be a false identification if one or more of the following are true:
- The program has been used for a very long time and is known to the user
- The program was installed by the user himself
- The program is from a trustworthy source
Please note that even old programs can get infected or replaced by malware without your knowledge. Besides that trustworthy sources might have become compromised themselves.
In order to enhance detection and reduce the rate of false positives we recommend you to send the file to our virus lab for further analysis.

false positives are very common with antivirus software. You could always run the file through any of the bigger/trusted free online antivirus scanners if you feel uncertain.
Ok, thanks a lot!

That worked.

if you use bootcamp, why not boot your MAC system? gamesalad also runs perfectly on MAC.. if you use bootcamp things might work slower actually.. im running on a 2008 mac with 4gb ram and it works perfectly. best regards!
btw i also used to hold on the avira antivirus, i used it for many years without any problems:)
@LumpApps We just released GetGameSalad.exe which is a bootstrap loader. Turns out that some of the AV programs think that it's a virus due to our use of UPX to compress the file. We'll put out a fix today that should help on that.
@rvantilborg I have to save it from Windows for a customer.
@codewizard Thanks!

@LumpApps Check it out again if you have a chance. Just download GetGameSalad.exe again and let's see what happens!
Nighttime here! I will try tomorrow

I am having the same problem in windows. The Avira antivirus keeps blocking the launcher. I used the old version for now. I wonder can the dev solve the problem though since it is a bit annoying.
When you have the old version you can update from within that version. That worked for me.
