Image size of actor and background?

I am planning to make a game in ipad landscape platform. My actor has size of 50x50. Pls help me by suggesting the image size for this actor. I am using independent resolution. plsss help me...Also I need to know about the image size of ipad background....Pls help me

Simple rule of thumb, always make the image exactly twice the size of the actor.

(Unless you know what you are doing and there is a specific reason to do otherwise).

If the actor is 50 x 50 pixels then make the image 100 x 100 pixels.

A full screen iPad image is 2048 x 1536 pixels.
