Possible with GS?

CaptFinnCaptFinn Member Posts: 1,828

IM playing a game. This game is loaded with tons of IAP. So if you want coins to upgrade. You either collect them the slow way in the game or you do a IAP. This is typical. But they have another way. Watch this video and you get 300 coins. You can watch a video back to back all day. Each time you get a reward of coins.

Is there a way to do this within GS?

It seems like the user is sent to a database via a url? and randomly chosen a video to watch. Then afterwards. Something must tell the game that he did watch all of it.

I don't believe 'rewarded' videos are possible in Gamesalad and I also thought Apple rejected apps with those, but apparently that has changed I guess if you're playing one.

Apple changed their tune on reward videos, presumably due to pressure from big publishers. Currently there are no video ads, but GameSalad have stated they plan to implement them. If they'll implement in such a way that we'll know if an ad was finished or not, that's another question.

Doesn't the game Crossy Road have that? Obviously not done in GS, but addressing your remark, Apple may still be accepting the 'rewarded' video concept. Unless something happened during my "hiatus".

BTW, someone out there was working on a Crossy Road clone in GS - not that bad, I'd say!

Rewarded videos are possible with the use of networking behaviors.

Also regular video ads work as well.

Apple banned rewarded reviews and rewarded installs but rewarding a player for watching a video is all good. The only thing is in gamesalad its hard to know if the player watched the video ad. Chartboost offers video ads. You simply set up interstitials like you normally would and change the ad campaign type to video interstitial on chartboosts site. Chartboost also offers a rewarded video service but gs cannot yet access the service. You could probably just create a simple version of this is gs. I would create a button that says "revive" or "get 20 free coins" "watch ad" etc... when they click on it pause the scene , enable advertisement and award them 20 free coins. Make sure you have video interstitials checked in chartboost. Also, I wouldn't have advertisements enabled anywhere else in you game since you can only have one chartboost campaign running in an app (otherwise on scene changes your player would have to wait through a video ad, NOT COOL). One thing is that you cannot be sure they are actually being served a video ad so you would potentially award coins to people who aren't being served.

But, gs said they are working on getting rewarded videos streamlined so keep your fingers crossed.

Rewarded reviews are still fine as long as you just ask for a review, you can no longer tell them what rating to give your app. Too many users actually thought that devs could know who left what reviews and reward based on that, devs were being accused of extortion

Huh. I was just told the other day. You can not reward someone for giving your app a review.

Its technically not allowed, but it can be a hit or miss when it comes to apple.
