You'll likely have more luck if you mention your pay level or budget for the game. If you are looking for free help that is not allowed in the forums.

Budget would be something between $500 - $1,500

Im just curious as to why someone can search for paid help but not free help? Thats like saying come to our Harley Davidson Convention. But dont look for someone to help you with your new design. "UNLESS" you plan to pay for their help.

How about we let people come here for help. And let those who want to help..help. And those who do not....ignore the post. If someone is looking for free help. Those who want to help freely will start up a PM conversation and go from there.

Thats like apple saying. During this WWDC. We dont want anyone talking to each other while your here. "We dont want to be responsible for any deals you guys make around the water cooler."

@FINNBOGG The same reason that in most places you can legally open a shop and sell items in exchange for money but can't legally beg on the streets.

There is no restriction on asking for free help, that's precisely what the forums are for, I suspect the rule is in place to discourage people from simply posting their particular requirements rather than engaing in the 'community'.

That's how it's going down, right now !

PM conversations are a disaster for the dissemination of information, they are the very thing that stymies the spread of ideas, forums are where it's at !

You are not permitted to ask for free assets, and I believe you're not allowed to ask for people to make a game for you for free (as that would presumably be an asset).

There is no restrictions on asking for help, or asking for people to create demonstrations of how to do particular things.

I feel like that's a fine line. Essentially, If you're looking for a free item and asking people to give it to you, yes, that's not allowed. If you're willing to pay someone for the work, that's allowed.

Seeking for a website that provides free and open source art is different.

Precisely, you can throw yourself into the forums and ask as many questions as you like and - where required - it's more than likely someone will throw a demonstration project your way.

I see where you're coming from on the subject. But still..... If someone asks for something free. A. He will be ignored by those who feel he is in the wrong for asking. B. Someone who disagrees with you has the right to freely give him what he is asking for. It's not like reading his question blinded you.

It's not voodoo (as far as I understand voodoo), it's simply forum rules.

Guys just to avoid any confusion on the matter. I am not a programmer. I agree with all conflicting parties. Help should be for free whenever possible. Though, I am looking for a programmer to develop my game if it is feasible. I am hiring a programmer for a specific project in mind and he/she gets paid upon completion of the project.
Helping is to be provided to those who have programming skills when it comes into providing solutions for a specific higher level problems beyond the programmer's skills set.

The marketplace might be part of the reason for the rule.

@M1900 ideas are good and fine but it doesn't work like this.

its not "i have an idea build it"

You can't order a thing without having it specified.

Else you will have problematics between you and your programmer and this will not end good for both parties.

If your serious and want to attract a quality programmer you should have a document covering all features, Ui etc. A so called game design document on which you can refer if the programmer has fulfilled the agreed conditions or not. This has to be there and finished (as good you can) before hiring anyone. Than you go through it with the programmer regarding feasibility and estimated time required.
And figure out the expected hours of work and from there go to what it will cost you.

Logic would dictate that there should be logic for there needing to be a rule.

New rule: if you inhale, you must exhale. It will be against the rules if you inhale and not exhale.

Well now that I think about it. We do live in a society that requires warning labels for everything. Hair dryers while taking a bath etc etc.

  • M1900M1900 Member Posts: 5

@BigDave I highly appreciate your advice and the game design document is in progress as we speak.

@FINNBOGG The admins and moderators of this site do their best to create a set of rules that keep the forums clean, organised and free of "spam" posts (be they completely unrelated spam or, for example, someone making a Candy Crush game who posts 20 threads asking for different art assets to be made for them).

These rules aren't perfect, and some get argued with. I've had my fair share of arguments with the mods and GS staff about some of the rules, both publicly and privately. In some cases the rules are deemed to be in the best interests of the forums, and in some cases the rules get revised and relaxed (you'll perhaps have noticed I was able to post my Ladders demo in its own thread).

The staff aren't inflexible robots - they do consider the arguments people put forward. Some points are easier to argue than others, though, and I think you'll have a tough time with this one.

Those members who have been around a long time will remember how things used to be, and be glad a lot of these rules are in place.

Marketplace. Well if that's the case GS should just hire the lot of you. And charge for any and all information that comes from the use of this forum.

Your question has been deemed a level 3 inquiry. If you wish your question to be answered. Please subscribe to a level 3 package plan. If you wish the answer to arrive with in 24 hrs. Please also subscribe to the expediting package.

Sorry the response from user234, has been deleted his comment threatens the purpose and reason for this forum.

@Armelline yeah I totally agree. And you see prime example as to why these rules are truly here. It's just in these innocent cases when the rule is mentioned as a defense. That's when I do a mental double take.

Rules??? We don't need no stinking rules!!

There's some history behind the rule against free assets (images, sounds, templates, etc.). @FINNBOGG Feel free to send a PM to a moderator or GS Staff and they can explain the reasoning behind this or other rules. Otherwise, please keep the discussion here about the question that was asked. This kind of discussion tends to derail a thread.

The rule you speak of is not an innocent case, it's something that's been heavily abused in the past. I for one am glad I don't have to wade through dozen of posts asking for free games or art or music to be made for people.

And it's not like you can't ask for something.

"Hey, anyone know where I can find a free coin image?" That'll be allowed, and will get responses.

"Hey, anyone who can give me a free coin image?" That'll not be allowed, and will not get responses.
