Snowblind

Hello, I'd like to present Snowblind.
Snowblind is a three phase mini-adventure set in a desolate snow-covered landscape.
It was made with the theme of loneliness in mind, and designed to showcase the music of Wolf and Phoene.
You control a survivor who must avoid attackers, collect orbs and find companionship in a bleak and hostile world.

You can play Snowblind on Gamesalad Arcade

Snowblind is my second game. I am still very new to this, and I would love to hear any feedback/criticisms/advice.

Thanks very much,
Fergus.

    Just beat the game.
    Controls are pretty smooth.
What I needed to do was pretty clear.
Could have used a mini-map with an enemy radar, but was OK without it.
Could have used some story at the beginning and at the end explaining the situation better, but was OK without it.
The gameplay so far could be an introductory mission to a much bigger game.
After you find the companion, (s)he could bring you up to speed and point you towards your next mission.

    Thanks for your comment!

I'm glad it seemed clear enough and worked ok. I agree that a map, story and missions would be good additions for a longer version. I wanted to keep it small and manageable to make so I tried to hint at a narrative without answering too much, and I imagine that could feel unsatisfying, I was hoping it would be mysterious.

    Thanks for playing!

I got to say, this game gives me the same kind of feeling of loneliness on some dead planet, like "Waking Mars" did. That was an awesome game, which might inspire you also, I don´t know. Polish the game up, and like @Summation said, get a cool story in there and a mini-map and this could be a cool exploration game. Really liked it so far!

    Cheers!

The big difference (at least to me) between mystery and ambiguity is that something mysterious holds your attention, even compels it to "turn the page."

You have to have that hook, that reason for the player to become invested in what's going on in order to drive the story/game forward.

Waking Mars is a really beautiful and atmospheric game which I hadn't seen before. Thanks for the recommendation!

The game Snow Blind turned out very well. Nice job with the running actor and the hostiles. You could easily expand on this if you wanted to. Good concept. Oh, and the music was excellent as well.

Thanks WarpSpeed for the kind words. And I'll pass on your compliment to the musicians. Thanks for taking the time to let me know, I really appreciate it.
