credit for moderators

I think we should have a vote on who is the best mod on the forum.
These guys do a good job and reviewing recent spam threads which have been thankfully removed etc, etc I think credit is due.

While I appreciate the sentiment, I really don't think we need a vote for best modera-- Mateen?! Oh snap, I better win against him! :p Seriously, though, an occasional thanks is really appreciated... we're all volunteers trying to make this a strong community.

Of course, if I wanted to abuse my powers, I could close this thread now and Mateen and I would share the title of Best Moderator. B)

Im sure most of the current mods don't even visit the forums anymore and only 1 or 2 help or try to help with questions so it would be good to drop the inactive mods and replace them with more active members imo.

I offered my services a while back but was turned down maybe due to lack of experience and lack of knowledge or maybe my face don't fit the click :)

Don't forget moderators get benefits like free GS Pro etc so its not all bad but most of them need to start pulling their weight or be replaced if you ask me.

@BigDave you don't want to know but if you insist on knowing just do a forum search with the keyword "Mateen" and you can read all the threads about him ... It will be good before bed time reading ...

I agree the mods could be overhauled, definitely only a couple are really active and those guys know who they are. Soooo ... well done them :)

  • ArmellineArmelline Member, PRO Posts: 5,364

Agreed, those mods that are active do a fantastic job, but there seems to be a small handful that do all the work and a few that literally do nothing, ever.

I agree that mods who are not active on the forums should be cycled out and new people brought in, gotta keep the blood fresh.

But I want to clear up a point, we don't get free pro. We never got free pro. There was a group of users (mods and non mods) who were selected as beta testers before it went public. We got free pro provided we continued to report bugs. If we missed reporting bugs for 2 consecutive releases we were dropped from the program.

But we never got anything for being mods.

    who is mateen

Google him, he's all over a bunch of different forums. He is a scammer that had stolen apps and resold them over and over again. He was living in Canada at one point but I'm not sure if he relocated.

My Korean has definitely improved over the past 24 hours. I can now say -- with a slight American accent -- "Addicting gameplay," "Intense challenges," and "Leaderboards." I'm still working on "You won't be able to put this down."

There may be 1 or 2 mods that don't come around as often as they used to, but most of us are active with the forums, you just don't see it. We move threads into proper categories, delete spammer accounts, clean up duplicate threads, and just help keep things generally in line. Helping with questions isn't a moderators only responsibility or privilege.

The community is great here, and most people looking for help get it quickly from other community members and moderators alike. I don't post in threads that have been answered, but I am here every day. I sat here for 4+ hours straight yesterday deleting spam accounts so the forums would stay clean, and according to the log, so was just about every other moderator. There were literally hundreds and hundreds of threads started by a spammer coming from multiple ip addresses. We're still fighting that one until GameSalad can implement a forum update.

Man, I wish we got free Pro, but I can also confirm that we don't. Outside of a free year from the End of the World Game Jam, I paid my $300 just like everyone else.

I guess part of the difference then is that some moderators will move a thread and post a message in it saying "Moved to the correct forum" etc. (Something I'm all in favour of.) Not directed at you specifically, @SlickZero, but if a moderator does everything silently it not only causes confusion ("hey where'd my thread go") but also means they're less likely to be noticed as being active.

Good communication from moderators is important but the main responsibility of a moderator on these forums is to keep the community healthy. And I think we're doing a good job of that. What @SlickZero says is important to keep in mind: moderators do most of their work in the background. I count on our group of dedicated folks to rename threads, delete spam, help users via private messages, and more. While I'm certainly a visible presence in terms of my frequent posts, you don't always see the hours I put in behind the scenes.

We are volunteers. I know I've been saying that a lot lately but it bears repeating. We don't receive perks but we do this because we want to contribute back to this great community.

If you see the title "Sous Chef" or "Senior Sous Chef" next to someone's nickname those are the forum moderators.

I don't think certain people are fit to be moderators, regardless of being here for however many years. Seems like the mods we have now are doing a great job as it stands.

As a user who has been here for multiple years, the mods have done a fantastic job overall with keeping the forum clean and a nice place to visit. For people who don't get paid of free PRO, they sure do a lot for us. They honestly don't get thanked enough.
