GameSalad WWDC 2010 Feature on TUAW

Another TUAW article - this time completely focused on GameSalad. The article itself isn't particularly informative, but the few reader comments are re-hashing the same issues seen in these forums for months - namely Gendai's Terms of Use AND the whole "Third Party Development Tool violates Apple's new IOS4 SDK." Sheesh!

Of course they give random reporters more info on this stuff than us:

"Herring said that the latest version of GameSalad is the fastest it's ever been, and that they're continually trying to figure out ways to optimize the apps that their users create."

Obviously they know 0.8.7 is faster.. Didn't feel like mentioning this to us though...

"Additionally, they've added more support for more of the iPhone and iPad's functions, including full multitouch support. "

    Cool... Knew this though...

"They're also looking closely at iOS 4 in order to try and support things like multitasking and the gyroscope as soon as they can"

Egh Aids and game center are way more important to me then the all powerful gyroscope...

"iAds and Game Center are also both being looked at; Herring says that since Apple wants to make iAds as easy as dropping some code in your app, they're hoping to make it just as easy to add iAds to a GameSalad project."

Gendai, You and me have a love hate relationship.... *Sigh*

Yup...the terms of use issue has yet to be resolved.

we were told a couple of months back, that it wasnt Gendai's intention to take control of anyones IP, and that they were looking into rewording the terms and conditions with their lawyer. Would be good to see some update regarding that.

I guess its not a priority in a lot of peoples minds at the moment, as most GameSalad games so far havent really been large enough successes. But it would be good to have the terms and conditions sorted out properly, for when someone hopefully comes up with a future appstore number 1.

At that point, if someone creates an IP as successful as Angry Birds, it suddenly has huge monetary value as an IP, and the current terms appear to give Gendai the right to sell the game onto whoever they wish.

So yup, those terms are in a need of a serious overhaul.

Also I'd like to throw out a vote here..

That instead of saying "made with GameSalad".... It should be changed to "Powered by GameSalad"
