Windows compatebilety (Part 1)

deadeye2 here. My version of Windows won't support GameSalad. What I want to know is: what is the cheapest version of Windows that will support GameSalad. Ones I get some anwers, I will make a "pole" of the versions so people can vote on which one is the cheapest. (Unless I only get one answer, then I'm going to skip that second part)

PLEASE don't recommend a Mac. We can't afford one.

Hi Deadeye2,

Your question is difficult to answer as we don't know your computer's specifications, nor have you mentioned what operating system you're using now.

What we do know is that GameSalad is supported on Windows Vista, 7 and 8, and that you need at least a Core 2 Duo processor and 2GB of RAM to run it.

If your existing PC meets those specifications, you could use any of those operating systems, though you probably won't be able to find a new-in-the-box copy of Windows Vista (nor would I recommend that operating system, even if you could).

That leaves Windows 7 and Windows 8. They are comparably priced, so cost isn't really a factor. What you should be looking instead is:

1. Legacy software and hardware compatibility
2. User interface (particularly with Windows 8)
3. Future support for the OS

If your hardware isn't up to spec, you could buy a new PC with Windows 7 or 8 pre-installed for what it cost for the OS and extra hardware to upgrade your existing machine.

If budget is a concern, you might also consider looking at refurbished PC's from a reputable online retailer. It would not be appropriate for me to recommend one here, but you can follow Jamie's advice and look around on your own.
