Hey guys, I made a game to promote my comics and it's a simple flappy style game. I decided to post here to show you and also receive some feedback. Cheers!
Dead Giveaway is a quiz game with a difference – the perplexing questions come with a number of clues to help players along the way, and the whole thing is hosted by a mysterious undead presenter, Zom B. Romero…
The app tests how well players know their pop culture. How many users does Facebook have? What is Homer Simpson’s favourite drink? Which company calls its new employees ‘Noogles’? Dead Giveaway tests just how much attention players really have been paying to the world around them...
With a plethora of quiz games on the App Store nowadays, what makes Dead Giveaway different from the rest? For a start, the questions are 100% original and fun – there are no boring history questions or science-related topics that will bore children and adults alike. All of the questions feature relevant and interesting characters, companies, songs, films and other modern elements that the quiz world is short of.

First I want to say congrats on getting your game published and entering into the GOTM. Also, you should edit your post and embed the youtube video into your post here on the forum so more people will see it as many don't like going to a new window to see things or they don't fully read to know you posted the link to the youtube video in your post. Just my thought on that! Secondly I liked the video, the gameplay, and the graphics but I wanted to point out three things I noticed from watching the video that are either bugs or kind of the ruin the aesthetic look of your game. These are my opinions and they may seem harsh because you have put so much work into this and it's your project but I like the concept and feel it could be better with a few tweaks so please don't think I'm being mean.
The first thing is the bug. When watching the video I noticed that there were many times when you stopped pressing one of the arrow buttons to move and the character stayed in one of the move animation frames rather then going back to it's idle position.
The next two things in my opinion are what ruin the aesthetic look of your game and take it from being aesthetically pleasing to kind of ugly. First thing was the "Scene Completed" scene. It's really ugly looking as well as the transition into it. It really takes away from the beautiful look of your game and wham completing a level it should make me feel pleased and excited and this just kind of almost kills that moment and feeling. As soon as the character hits the door (the goal) the level ends suddenly and then I'm presented with an ugly looking "Scene Completed" image. Not pleasing at all. Catches you off guard and takes me out of the game and ruins my feeling of feeling accomplished! Also, I would recommend it saying "level Complete" rather than "Scene Complete". Yes to us developers it is know as a scene that you are playing in but to the player they know it as a level. Hope that makes sense.
The second thing is what I think to be the biggest thing to ruin the aesthetic look of your game and take it from being aesthetically pleasing to ugly. Your graphics are really good and everything for the most part goes well together and looks great EXCEPT for the in game font for the numbers and where it says, "Scene", "Coins", & "Time". WHY in the world would you use that font for this game. That's all I kept looking at while watching the gameplay video. It ruins the beautiful look and feel of your game! Why didn't you create custom font to go with the look and feel of your game? To me it looks like about 90% of your game you cared about and the other 10% you basically said screw it, I need to get this finished and throw it out there. That's how it comes off even by just the simplest thing like font. To me it really took away and ruined the beauty of your game. In my head the whole time I kept saying to my self, "What the heck was he thinking putting that font in this game? It doesn't go, it doesn't belong here, it's ugly, and it needs to go!"
Again, like the game and game play but these few and small things ruined it for me. Change this things and I feel it will make the feel and look of your game a 100 times better. Hope you don't take my post the wrong way but rather take it as Constructive Criticism!
@KillerPenguinStudios Thanks you very much for all suggestions, i will embed the video, also the video was shoot several months before the game was completed when it was in beta, so, many of the things you suggested have been revised already.
Hi @jined I agree with some of ideas of @KillerPenguinStudios, but I think if make all the objects of the game smaller (actors, kitty, enemies and even some platforms). It's look suffocating... have a look in some Mario's and Sonic's screenshots you'll see all that the things are a little bit small. But your game is great! Cheers!
@lobosco_estudio Hi, thanks for the suggestion. The choice of the aspect ratio size was very ponderate, even if the final game has a little more range than the video that was cut, we choosed characters with a little bit more size, because we wanted to evince the details of the comics characters that the two artist provided for my game...we just wanted it to be a "little more" comic and a "little less" game. Anyway, that's one of the reasons we added the "eye" inside the gameplay, to have a scene preview to look over the part that the aspect ratio and screen size, eventually, keeps hidden.

Again, we have come to the stage were Game developers feel its all right to poke fun at other developers games. Its not professional or makes yourself a respected developer no matter what quality the game has. There is a difference between providing feedback or an opinion, and making fun of a game and its developer.
Like always, some great content has been submitted this month and look forward to the results.

Or to @KillerPenguinStudios, since you refer to feedback and opinion? I hope it was understood from the utterly fake "LOL, brah..." and the purple demon that I wasn't being serious at all in my post and was only ironically referring to @KillerPenguinStudios and more directly to @FallingBoxStudios
I'm sorry if anyone took it the wrong way.
I wholeheartedly agree with @marcgreiff that opinions etc., however valid or not, should be shared either by PM, or in a thread specifically about that game, not in the GOTM thread. And personally I think it is also better to refrain from commenting on who we hope to win -- not that it will influence the judges, but just out of principle, to keep things as clean as possible. If you like a game, give it a like or an awesome.
OMG people. It's called constructive criticism and people need to give it to developers more than they do. I'm all about helping other developers make their stuff the best they can. If others don't give you their opinions on what they think would make your game better then you just continue on with something that could have had more potential.
There's 2 reasons I posted my comment in this section @marcgreiff and @pHghost and they are;
1:This is where he posted his game at and I saw it and saw an opportunity to give some constructive criticism and help another fellow developer make something good even better.
2: So other forum members see that someone has noticed some things and @jined doesn't get bombarded with emails stating the same thing over and over again.
There are reasons I do the things I do. So stop complaining about why I made my post and try to understand the reasoning behind it!
@KillerPenguinStudios -- I agree 100%, constructive criticism should be given and helps developers to better themselves and their games. But this is a competition submission thread, not a post about a specific game, so it simply doesn't belong here. If there wasn't another post on his game, then send a PM.
Anyway, we are taking this thread off topic, let's leave it at that (or start a new thread on the discussion).
I was referring to the comment made about the Smash the buttons jab.
I only read the game announcements so it took me a while to understand why @KillerPenguinStudios was giving a lecture directed at me.
I am kind of confused @Tiny_Ideas, I did not mention you at all. Anything I had mentioned above was not directed towards you as I didn't even mention you in any of my comments. Hope that makes sense and you understand that anything I said was not directed towards you!

A lot of great games, but I think @marcgreiff's Run Rob Run or @Pocket_Tech's Crackshot should definitely win
LOL, brah, how can they even compete with Button Masher 4, such a long-running series? >:)
How about Monster Rage? Not like it's my app or anything. Haha
+1 to that!
