GameSalad a world-class game engine?

Gene4GamersGene4Gamers LebanonMember, PRO Posts: 57

Hello,

Let me introduce myself first,
I'm like everyone else here, especially those who have purchased the " PRO " version of GameSalad.. What I'm trying to say that I am also a game developer, and I do games for fun and not for the sake of money ( would not cry if I earned though :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes: )

Okay so bottom line here, I already paid 299$ for GameSalad, 25$ for the Google play store and 99$ for the iOS app store..
So generally in total that would be exactly 423$ excluding the graphics, sounds and animation for my game!

I want to talk about the features you unlock when you buy the Pro version..

1- Twitter Tweet Sheet : It only works on iOS devices, plus why there's only twitter tweet sheet, why my users, I mean my iOS users can only share their scores on twitter? Why not a share button to share on any social media, which is available on like 99% of the other games' engines?

2- Custom Ad Control : Again, android's market is growing so much faster than iOS' probably even bigger now... People hate, literally hate "Interstitial Ads" , banner ads are much much better.. My " PRO " account does not have the ability to integrate a banner ad in Android's devices, and if I use Chartboost or Revmob which beside being just an "Interstitial Ads" is also very buggy, I'd get loads of bad reviews and people would delete my game from their phones in like no time... So including everything, I've paid around 550-600$ to create a game that generates 15$ to 20$ a month even with 15 000 downloads... It's not like I'm doing it for the money but I don't want to lose my money while doing it...

3- iOS in app purchase : What happened between the GameSalad's creator and the play store's owner? I mean seriously why do you even have an

4- Android Publishing ;
5- Windows Publishing ;
6- Tizen Publishing

if your app is useless unless it's on an iOS device?

7- Game Center : Again you can get it to function on Android/Amazon devices, but will it function properly? The game lags like I don't know how to describe this, but this feature was not made for any other device than iOS...

8- Technical Support : since you are a " PRO " user, you paid 300$ oh sorry 299$ you get this awesome support and everything right? NO!! You get a support where the assigned clerk, usually " BOB " takes 3 business days to reply, and his reply would possibly, probably, always will be something like :

Thank you for contacting GameSalad.

If you experience issues with your project, please post them to the GameSalad Forums to get assistance from our community of developers:
http://forums.gamesalad.com/categories/working-with-gamesalad-mac or http://forums.gamesalad.com/categories/working-with-gamesalad-windows

As indicated on the support site, we are unable to provide project debugging assistance. If you feel that you have discovered a bug with the actual Creator software, please visit http://bugs.gamesalad.com and let us know all about it.

GameSalad Customer Support

Finally, It was so good writing about this, it was my first PRO year here and well so much likely to be my last, I'm going to return to the engine I used before, came here because it's 200$ cheaper, but as they say " Cheap is cheap " , and GameSalad's developers have so much to work on to be on a class level and I don't see that going to happen anytime in 2014.

Regards,

Gene4Gamers

Ever thought that it could be your game? My games have all done extremely well, apart from 2.

Can you tell me what's your revenue, and send me links to your games? I'd love to try them

    http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_noss_1?url=search-alias=mobile-apps&field-keywords=jigglybean games&sprefix=jiggl,mobile-apps

All my revenue has come from Amazon. Flappy Birdie (which is now free) was a big seller for me and so was Happy Bird.

Money wise, excluding taxes and exchange rates (in the UK here), both probably made around $12,000 in terms of sales from launch until today. Both now average under 50 downloads a day.

I've removed a few other apps and the Flappy games will be vanishing soon as I prepare for a new change, new games etc etc.

Weird. When I went Pro, I knew exactly what I was getting for the membership and license(s).

Wow! Thats great! Can I publish my apps under your account? ;)

Or, if you feel you have a little too much money, I can send you my PayPal address. ;)

@Braydon_SFX what was your biggest revenue from an app on the playstore?

The play store never really caught on for me. A lot of junk on there. The amazon store, though, is a different story. ;)

  • jigglybeanjigglybean Member Posts: 1,584

haha. I think I just got extremely lucky with 2 flappy bird games. One of the first on Amazon too. However, after the tax cut, which was a whopping 40% then the $ to £ exchange rate, left me with around £4k, which still isn't bad - just not as eye watering as the starting number.

Is the Amazon Store actually worthwhile?

@pHghost‌, if you understand the Kindle audience and make apps accordingly it is the most lucrative at the moment.

Wow, I'm surprised, I thought the Amazon Store wasn't too huge. I actually have an account with them, having taken part of the promotion last year, but haven't really paid attention to the store afterwards.

Yeah, it's much easier to climb the ranks, too. Great store and often my priority.

@Braydon_SFX‌ -- Hmm, I guess I should divert some energy to checking it out. Do you target just Amazon devices, or is it Android-wide?

In the past it's been just Kindle devices, but I downloaded from the store and tested on android devices.

OK. Sounds like plan. Is there the same tendency on the Amazon Store as on other stores, where you really need to push out free games with ads, or are paid apps successful as well?

Unlike most other stores, Amazon seems to do extremely well with paid apps. Free apps get good coverage, too.

I've created this in my game, it's really hard to reach 60, really really hard, so I created an actor that will open a URL if you reach a score of 100 or more, and then you'll have to fill the form to enter a draw that will be held on November 20 for a chance to win an iPhone 6, is it good?

A game engine and its tools does not equate to success. Blaming a GDK for your missed milestones/targets/revenue is something that would never have been an issue IF you knew the limitations of the engine before you purchased it. There was not a pushy salesman that presented the engine to you, making all sorts of promises and talking out his butt making up features and possibilities. It is up to you to research your tools and features (and understand them) for creating your goods.

The thing is that this type of post is nothing new. I have no idea how many times people post things about their previous Pro experiences or ask questions to Pros before they upgrade. There is nothing here that we did not know already or had not been covered (for years). These old posts and very relevant experience data could have aided you in your decision from the get-go.

That sucks that this did not work out for you, but I must say that it's highly likely to happen again when/if you decide to jump into another GDK using this format to quantify and qualify your tools.

Pretty much, plus the share integration, the best way to market your game is by letting your players share their scores on their social media accounts
