Many reasons to use a PDF over PNG... mostly it has to do with scale-ability. Most PDFs are essentially vector based... so they maintain their readability at any size. PNG are raster images so scale them too far up and they get jaggies.
You can use PDF to image converter to convert PDF to PNG.
