The Legend of Zelda: Duo Swords

This is a Remake of the Original game The Legend of Zelda.

The Whole Point is to add a 2 Player Mode* (Thanks tatiang). I don't have much planned at this point just try to follow the Original Story and Castles (dungeons). But of course, due to my limited programmings skills and man power, I might change the game a bit...

Plans for further along in Development are to add Player vs Player Battle mood. Additional Quests, and who else knows?

This Game is Built on my Spare Time and Will NOT Be marketed for financial gain. I do not Own the rights to Zelda, The Music, or the Graphics, So at any Time if the Owners (Nintendo) are to contact me and tell me to stop, I will comply.

This is just a Fan Made game and I hope to Be able to release it to the public for all to enjoy. Thanks for the Support and happy Gaming. =)

And you're making this with GameSalad? How long do you think it will take you to complete it?

    I think you mean "mode."

I am not Sure on how long it will Take. I work and don't have to much free time. I've Been working on this game for only a week. But I am doing this with GameSalad. Its pretty Simple to program with Gamesalad. I have learned a lot making this game.

Here's my 3rd Video Update... This is Pretty much where I am at. Please forgive the unprofessional video... Also In my other Video, I show that If either player are Dead, Camera Control goes to the remaining Link Alive.

Impressive work, looks very authentic. I know you say you are not selling this, I've seen this idea come up a few times now, that if you give away someone else's IP instead of selling their IP then the owners won't mind (if that's a correct reading of your position), but it is still infringing on Nintendo's copyright and leaves you open to being sued.

It's much more likely, though, that you'll get a cease and desist. While you avoid being sued, you will lose all your time and effort put in to this, though. Why not take the basics of the game and rework it with original art and levels as something else. It would still be fun to play, but you'd be a lot more likely to be able to release it to others :)

Thanks for the Support. I think Nintendo will probably tell me to Cease and Desist before they sue me. If that happens than I will just replace all the art and music. I am not really looking for money on this game. I just want to make a good game and learn to program using GameSalad at the same time enjoy a childhood game with a friend.

But I have seen a lot of Zelda Remakes out there, and they all have been open to the public for many years. So as small as I am, I highly doubt I will have to worry.

Once again, thank you all for your Time to post, and give me advice! =) will keep this page updated.

Not nesecerally, you've clearly shown aforethought and are knowingly breaking the law, (the fact that you've included '©Nintendo' only supports this idea) so you couldn't really argue against a lawsuit on the grounds of ignorance or error, sure you can take the C&D gamble, but you are still putting yourself at risk of being sued, there is nothing compelling an IP holder to first issue a C&D before legal action, especially as you've not just 'borrowed' a character or single game element or name from a small indie games maker (without the legal budget to persue IP infringement) but have wholesale infringed the IP of a large multinational.

If Nintendo want they can simply go ahead with a lawsuit without issuing a C&D order, and even if they don't go for damages and you don't contest the lawsuit, and immediately remove your product from the market, it could still cost you a lot in lawyer's fees, and depending on the jurisdiction you may have to pay the other party's legal costs too.

well I bid you good luck, since Legend of Zelda is copyrighted by Nintendo and their company is as big as Disney.

Thanks For the Important Info..... So the Dream of making this a Zelda Game is a huge gamble. But If I go back to the drawing board, Make new Graphics, new sounds new music, and new level design, I should be ok?

Well as you say all you want to do is to "make a good game and learn to program using GameSalad at the same time enjoy a childhood game with a friend" then is there any real need to publish the work ? You can do all these things without giving away Nintendo's property to the public without their permission ?

At the end of the day it is up to you, you can take your chances, you might get away with it, but there will always be a risk with this kind of thing . . . also I am not a lawyer so if you want solid legal advice it would be best to consult a lawyer.

Sure, the game could be similar in style, similar music and effects, colour palette, character design and so on - in fact you can get away with quite a lot of 'inspiration' :) the big companies do it themselves, but once you get into using actual product names, copying characters and so, you are in a much more perilous position.
