Know bugs list for Windows Version
http://forums.gamesalad.com/discussion/comment/481082#Comment_481082
Hi I'm new to Gamesalad Creator as of yesterday, a colleague of mine began using it. I have since then began reading the manual and watching the cookbook videos and have encountered a number of problems. I thought it would be a good idea to sticky a thread of know issues and compatibility problems for the Windows Creator. So far here are some of the problems I have encountered:
1. Not sure if this is windows related but the cookbook link from the Apple manual to the Windows manual is broken, I had to search manually for the windows manual which is actually located in chapter 6. https://help.gamesalad.com/hc/en-us/articles/201824306-1-2-Mac-Creator-Manual here is the Windows download link https://help.gamesalad.com/hc/en-us/articles/203082457-6-3-Windows-Creator-Manual
2. The windows manual is using screenshots of the mac version very confusing and misleading
3. The software update function on the Windows Creator version I am running is broken which coincidentally is the newest version available on the website
5. The basic shoot em up template in the Windows manual is not compatible with the version of Creator I am running
6. Trying to open the template with out the creator running leads to a gray screen on the creator
7. The windows manual repeatedly mentions a browser below the backstage that hosts a number of functions in fact it states that it is what makes the creator so easy to use at time, this makes the examples in the manual up to page 10 somewhat difficult to find and implement, as well as making continuing further in the Manual exhausting I.E the template doesn't load, the perc(game.time,1) will not work unless formatted correctly
8. There is already a number of issues that can be fixed on the windows version by going into the region and language settings on your Windows OS computer
Here is a link to that article http://forums.gamesalad.com/discussion/59247/windows-creator-first-stop-if-you-experience-unexpected-behaviours
Please continue to add to this post so we can have a comprehensive bug list that pertains to windows only.
I will link some of the other tickets of late to this page to start a compendium, which I will then refine and clean up in a fresh post with solutions. I must say that this has been a trying experience for me so far I don't want anyone else to run headlong into the same problems if they need not.
Running an ASUS G-74sx BBK8 with Windows 7 Home Premium, RAM 8 GB, 64bit OS, Intel Core I7 2670QM @2.20 GHZ, and an NVidia 560M onboard graphics chipset. If submitting a new bug here please please post your computers specs.
Also how do I check which version I am running
Some of these links already have solution FYI

IF anyone has the solution to any of these problems, or any of mine please post. I really want to get that template working.
Bummer, I really wanted to use this app too. Might have to consider a different game maker as I am running deadlines. A shame I cannot continue with the manual and tutorial due to the high amount of problems with a lack of answers.
I have found a few of my own, which are move frustrating since they occur when making a real game and sometimes force you to work around them if possible. 1) When playing the game, in the game window there is the zoom button. If you zoom in, then zoom back out to where you started, the view is very messed up. The same goes for zooming out and back. 2) A REALLY frustrating one is when you have a large sum of actors in a scene and you attempt to add a new scene, GS crashes after about 20 seconds. It does this every time you add a new scene, preventing you from ever adding a new scene. A work around for this is to add as many scenes you want before you start adding many actors to any scene. I just tried this yesterday, in fact, and I'm glad to say that it seems to be working fine. I've had to restart 2 games because of this pest! 3) Sometimes, when returning to the editor after playing the game, if you press Ctrl + Z to undo your last action, it doesn't undo your last action, it instead undoes a seemingly random action you did that was not recent. This one can be rather frustrating, too. 4) I'm not sure if this one will happen on ALL Windows' or if it's just mine, but sometimes GS will crash out of nowhere, with no warning whatsoever. It might be due to my slow internet connection, so this might just be mine. Furthermore, sometimes after it crashes, I go to the folder I have the file saved in to reopen it and the file isn't there. When this happens, I have to do a full search of my computer just to find it. This has happened to me twice now. The first time was right when I was nearing the end of a few week long game, so I nearly had a heart attack! 5) Lastly, is a really scary one. As I said in #4, my GS crashes randomly sometimes, making me lose some progress and sometimes it moves the file. I'm not exactly sure if it just moves the file to another folder or if it permanently deletes the file and the file I find in a search is a backup, but either way, I attempted to backup the file to my USB drive and when I opened the copied file, the game was blank. This is scary for me because I could lose weeks of work out of nowhere and not be able to recover it, and I would not be real happy if that happens... I'm sure anyone could understand why... I currently use the most up-to-date GS for Windows 8, if that makes any difference. I would really like the last two bugs to be looked in to because they really worry me!
Before I started using GS, I was using GameMaker. You should try it if you don't like this one. It's another drag-and-drop game development tool and it has it's own scripting language called GML (GameMaker Language). On the free version, you are limited, so it'd cost you $50 (last time I checked) to upgrade to the cheapest paid version, which has no limitations. There is also a more advanced game development software called Unity 3D. I have that one installed, but it's beyond me right now, but it doesn't cost anything to put of the games to the app stores, unlike GameSalad and GameMaker and it has no limitation on the free version, but you do get more advanced features by upgrading at the cost of a steep $1500 (I think). I plan to start using Unity once I learn Javascript and C# (which I'm currently working on Javascript). You might want to look into both of these programs if you're interested in some different programs. If you have any questions about GameMaker, feel free to ask me because I spent almost 2 years with that program, so I know a thing or two about it. Unity... I know absolutely nothing about! I hope this helps you with your work.
An addition to my previous comment, one thing in particular that makes me almost want to go back to GameMaker is it's "precise collision checking" feature. With Game Salad, you only have rectangular or circular collision shapes, but Game Maker has rectangular, circular, diamond, and more, but it can also have a custom collision shape and have the collision shape match the actor exactly, which can really come in handy. I really wish Game Salad had precise collision shapes, or at the least have more collision shapes.
We at GamesSalad are looking at this thread but it would also help if you file support tickets with us for these bugs so we don't loses any.
I did submit two bug reports, but haven't heard back about the template.
@BlackCloakGS I've submitted one about the crashes a while back. I'm not even sure if it actually got through. I have a very cheap internet connection. The diagonal walls in my apartment probably don't help much with that.
@IMakeGamesLikeThis do you have a support ticket number for the crash you submitted?
Edit:
I looked in out CS ticket system and I don't see any tickets from you. Did you submit the with a different name or did you just report them in this thread?
@BlackCloakGS I > @BlackCloakGS said:
I resubmitted it a few minutes ago. Tell me if it went through.
yep it went through
@BlackCloakGS How exactly does bug reporting work? Do you guys just test it out to verify that it is present, then come up with a fix for it and send out an update?
@IMakeGamesLike Once we have enough information to reproduce the issue we will add it to our bug data base a schedule it to be fixed for a release. . Crash bugs once reproduced will be fix as soon as we can.
