iPod Touch crash

Hi guys, first time posting :)

I released my second game my with Gamesalad on Friday. You can check it out at http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/yomp/id372292880?mt=8# and I can give promo codes to anyone who wants to check it out.

Basically it works fine on my iPhone but someone downloaded it on an iPod Touch and when it gets to the 'Flip Screen' part, it crashes their device. Other iPod Touch users haven't experienced any problems. Any ideas on why this might be?

I'd really appreciate anyone's insight on this, I don't want to continue selling a game that could have any big problems with it!

Cheers,

nightleaf

If its running fine on your iPhone, it should be running fine on iPod touches....

Its probably due to lack of ram on their device and it probably only happened once...

That would especially be the case if they have a jailbroken device, and lots of 3rd party software modifications, eg. background downloading, multitasking etc.

From my experience with jailbreaking, unless you have the newest hardware your device can get pretty sluggish.

Also if it was on a 1st gen touch, those things are slower than hell don't worry about it, Apples dropping support for them next month anyway so their basically worthless now.

If you want me to check the game out I will (I have a 2nd gen touch)

If that's the case then that's fantastic, I was really hoping it was due to compatibility or something. The device isn't jailbroken, but I'm not sure how old it is. I'd love for you to try the game on your device if you could though. Both to see if it works and for any general feedback you might have to offer really!

The promo code is TFK6W7H43NN6, please let me know when you've used it!

Also to anyone else who should stumble across this post, I'd really appreciate any feedback so message me for another promo code!

Alright sorry for the long wait (haven't been home for a bit) heres my conclusion:

Flip screen bug=non existent on my touch I played through the game multiple multiple times...

Feedback: I like it, nice little creative game... The graphics are great and sort of retro slick... I swear I've heard the audio before, but its catchy :) The game is fun... It's elegantly simple, theres not a ton of menus... It's hard, it starts off simple, but it builds up fast and I love it... I kept telling myself I needed to check one more time for the bug haha

Some things I noticed though.... you can flip the screen over, even when it doesn't tell you too, but yes it doesn't turn around the cannon thing.... but I think it would help if you couldn't turn the screen over unless it tells you too.... Sometimes when you hit enough ball things all the text pops up and I can't see what it says... All in all a great game though... Could definitely see this as an AMAZINGLY PERFECT GAME that could be in the top 25 in there were online leaderboards.... So tell Gendai to get on it!

All in all though great game :)

I'll write you a review on itunes too :D

The most impressive thing I noticed about your game though, was the silky smooth controls...

You got the accelerometer working great! I was wondering if you could tell me what you used to get the controls working that amazing!?

If you don't wanna post it on here: you can tell me at: chosenonestudios@yahoo.com

Of course thats only if you want to!

    Nice game btw!

I'm so glad you like the game! I'll be working on an update soon to improve various features, so your feedback is invaluable, and thank you so much for the review!

Do you know how I might go about contacting Gendai and getting into any leaderboards or anything? Sales are very slow since the launch on Friday, but I really believe in the game so I'll go to any lengths to get exposure.

As for the movement of the character, the method I used was fairly simple:

    MOVE LEFT
    When game.Accelerometer.Y > 0

    Move
    -direction: 180
    -speed: abs(game.Accelerometer.Y)*1000
    -relative to scene

    MOVE RIGHT
    When game.Accelerometer.Y < 0

    Move
    -direction: 0
    -speed: abs(game.Accelerometer.Y)*1000
    -relative to scene

That's it really. Obviously I selected wrap Y, and I added in a vectorToAngle rule so the character is always facing the green alien.

And I did the audio myself! Any similarity to an existing piece is purely coincidental! Though I did try hard to give it a retro feel..

Well thanks again for your feedback, I was very pleased when I read it.

Oh what I meant by that is you need to nag them haha Online Leaderboards aren't even possible right now :/ There are rumors about facebook/ twitter leaderboards though, and possibly even gamecenter, but it might be awhile because nobodies really sure because gendai is as opaque as Apple

Sales always start off slow, they'll pick up though, it just takes time!

    Good Luck! :D

oh and ty btw for the accelerometer tip :)

How to convert MKV, AVI, FLV, VOB, WMV, MOD... to iPad on MAC

Now the new iPad is really a much better device to enjoy videos and movies than any previous version of the iPod and iPhone, this should due to its bigger screen and landscape orientation. But many folks encountered lots of problems, the most outstanding issue is the formats can't supported by iPad. As an Apple site editor, after searched and read many articles and reviews, I write out this article on how to convert popular video/audio formats to iPad supported. The following tutorial I will show you how to convert MKV, AVI, FLV, VOB, WMV, MOD...to iPad compatible video/audio files.

Preparation: The first is to hunt a professional tool. Actually I have been looking for an all-in-one iPad video converter for Mac for a long time, and easiler I came across iFunia iPad Video Converter for Mac which recommend on Applethoughts.com. With its friendly interface, every one can easily and fastly convert almost all popular video formats such as MKV, AVI, FLV, VOB, WMV, AVCHD M2TS/MTS, MOD, TOD, MPEG, MOV to iPad supported formats including MP4, M4V, MOV, MP3, AAC, etc, especially for its audio/video synchronization and multi-thread encoding technology which makes it more powerful and professional than other similar programs on the market.

After downloading and installing the iPad Video Converter for Mac, just follow the steps as below:
Step1. Click the "Add" button and import the video files you want to convert to iPad
This iPad video converter supports drag-drop and batch conversion, so you can import and convert several multimedia files at a time.

Step2. Select iPad preset from output format list
In the Destination-Setup section of the interface, choose the right preset for your iPad device in the Convert-to drop-down menu. There are many options when you're converting your videos for your iPad. Obviously, the better the quality, the larger the file size. Ultimately it's a personal decision everyone has to make on what's more important: space on your iPad or audio/video quality. Personally, I prefer to stick with the default profile because the good quality video and audio are given. You just have to pick and choose which profile you want to keep on your iPad. Play around and see which results you like best.

Step3. Hit Start to iPad video conversion on OS X
When the conversion is done you can transfer the video to your iPad via iTunes. Then Okay, you just need to wait for a while to get the desired file for great enjoyment with your iPad.

    Note:
    * The reviews read that this professional iPad Video Converter for Mac is specially design for Apple iPad, aiming to enable iPad users an exquisite experience of viewing video entertainment on your iPad’s largescreen.
    * It's optional functions including edit video with special effects, merge multiple video clips into one video and trim video clips to keep your favorite parts.
    * Can add TXT or image as watermark to video, you can enjoy yourself on the go.
