Might be looking for a Developer!!

TaeManTaeMan Atlanta, GeorgiaMember Posts: 47

So I am very tied down with school and extra stuff right now. I really want to create my game myself to save money but I don't think I will have time any soon. So as I said I might be looking for someone to do my game for me. Now if I do, I will be very cautious because in the past I've been ripped off by 2 elance developers. Just giving you guys a heads up!!!! @tatiang?? How about TShirtBooth. I heard he's good

Put in a request at GsHelper.com and they will find someone to help. Their rate is usually $40 an hour.

I would like to chip in here with some advise and say just because someone is cheaper per hour does NOT mean you will save money as they might be a lot slower than another guy that charges more an hour so get a complete quote for the whole project.

I charge $50 an hour but been using GS for over 4 years (I'm too busy to help so count me out btw).

A detailed design doc is a must for the developer to give an accurate quote.

Ask to see what else they've worked on and ask them how much it cost to develop it.

Always have a realistic budget and don't expect a game to cost you $100.

Ask them when they can deliver the final project by as many devs have 2-3 projects on the go at any time.

If i we're you i'd save your money and take the time to learn to do things yourself there's no rush and plenty of help via videos, this forum, templates etc.

    Darren.

    Great advice, Darren @DeepBlueApps‌.

Tshirtbooth is not active on the forums and hasn't been for a long time.

I'm too busy at the moment or I'd be happy to help you.

And although I agree with Darren about getting an estimate up front, I often work on an hourly basis and give my clients updated project files as I go. That way (a) they have a sense of how the app is progressing and can see the quality of my work before everything is said and done, and (b) I know they are going to pay me each time. In fact, for the first payment I always send a video demo and once they have paid me for that portion of the work I send them the actual project file. That way neither of us gets screwed.

Make sure you work with someone who has a presence here and/or a third-party site. It indicates that they have some stake in their reputation and won't be running off with your money.

    Good luck!

@tatiang‌, maybe I could get you to do my game. You seem trustworthy!!!! Sorry it took so long to reply. How much do you charge??

    @TaeMan still too busy :p

But you're welcome to send me a private message with some details about your game and I can get back to you when my client load drops a bit. We can discuss pricing, etc., but it's pretty much in line with what was said by others.

I am for hire via GSHelper, am reliable and have 3+ years experience. Also I am capable of making music, sounds, animations and illustrations.
I agree with Darren: Have a realistic budget.

@LumpApps‌ has done a fantastic job staying on top of things related to project support. He'd be a great choice if you haven't found someone yet.

We have developers over at Gsinvention who are very reliable and have lots of great feedback from our customers.
Although at this time, we are currently booked out with custom client work.

What we do with our clients is give them a fixed price,
We chop the project into parts where we send them updates of the project file as we go.
We also send over a video before payment to make sure the client is getting what they asked for.
We also offer free support for any custom work templates we have made.

@LumpApps why go via GSH? Hes posted openly on the forum and surely if you cut out the middle man you and the TaeMan are both better off unless GSH doesn't take any %?

You get the full amount instead of a % and TeaMan is better off because he gets more for his money.

Let's say an hour support on GSH is $50, TaeMan pays GSH $50 and they keep $10 Lump gets $40 so TaeMan gets $40 worth of code where as if he goes direct to you and pays you the $50 you get more money and TaeMan gets more code for his dollar.

It doesn't make sense to me unless I got it wrong which is possible :)

@TaeMan contact Lumps direct via PM would be your best bet IMO.

    Darren.
