The 'free' version Advertising MUST stop!

This is unlikely to make any difference but it'll get it off of my chest and I can move on with my life (and move on to another development system).

I spent months learning Gamesalad before finally publishing my first App and only then at that point did I notice the boot-up Ads that were forced into MY App (yes, mine! I thought of it, I developed it, I spent MY time building it). Yes yes yes, I used your creation system and yes yes yes these people need to be paid. But GameSalad is an evolving platform and we, the unpaying demo crew, are helping to make it better by feedback, helping others, and Beta testing everything FOR you. And the thanks we get... your nickel & dime advertising model.

There are plenty of other systems available, and all they do is watermark a boot screen or display a full splash screen in some way, or limit the publishing systems and are CLEAR about it, NOT make money from the work we do so blatantly or directly. I'd rather only publish in HTML5 than deal with your approach.

If I was a buyer on the App store, and I paid £2 or $3 for an App, and as soon as I booted it up was forced to click through advertising I'd be PISSED, and rightfully so! Essentially Gamesalad are saying 'thanks for trying our software, thanks for all the feedback, thanks for helping other users - by way of thanks we're going to suck money out of your users and annoy the hell out of you for developing such a cool App' - CHEERS.

I've just developed another App, and in testing phase I've now noticed you placed YET ANOTHER Ad into my App, so that's one on boot AND a full screen Ad before the App runs. Which also means that if I were to update my previous Apps they too would be subject to 'upgrading' with your trash.

I'm all for buying software I use. More importantly I'm very much FOR software that can potentially make me money. But the fact is my Apps have now already had complaints from buyers about WHY THEY HAVE ADs ON AN APP THEY BOUGHT!

You could argue that I wouldn't have made any money without Gamesalad... BO!!O(£$... there are others around now. I also wouldn't have made any money from Gamesalad if I knew before-hand that they would enforce Advertising on my Apps because I would never had started using it in the first place.

So:

  1. I'd love to buy your software, but I won't, because you annoyed the hell out of me and my customers.
  2. Why would I buy into a company now that obviously is perfectly fine with annoying ITS potential customers.
  3. I can't update my previous App, because it will mean yet MORE advertising for my buyers therefore you've now completely removed any chance I can improve upon those Apps or give my buyers a upgrade by way of my apology to them for the Advertising.

WHY? Why the hell are you forcing Advertising and your own damn revenue model on BETA users of your software? Users that tirelessly help others, feedback on issues to make the platform better for everyone? What on Earth made you think this was a good business model, the 'lets piss off our BETA users in the hope that they get so annoyed they buy the Pro version' model!

Here's was business plan:

  1. Learn Gamesalad like a ninja
  2. Produce 2-3 Apps that generate a little income, just enough to cover the Pro Licence fee
  3. Pay the fee by way of thanks to Gamesalad for allowing me to earn some cash through something I love, continue to make more Apps and probably even KEEP a Gamesalad logo and link IN the Apps I make.

Instead here's what you got:

  1. Learn Gamesalad like a ninja
  2. Produce 1 App and get to the end of Adhoc testing the 2nd App before realising you suck
  3. Drop Gamesalad like a rank-worm-infested-hot-potato and go find a better solution.

I'm not buying software from a company that screws over it's beta testers, simple.

Cheers

Doesn't it actually say though in the comparison chart that ads are mandatory in the basic version?

Yes, the customer would be right to be annoyed, but it's you who decided to sell them a game that contains advertising so it's you who they should be annoyed at rather than GameSalad.

How do you think GameSalad development should be funded ?

Because you sold them apps that contained advertising . . . .

Not that I want this thread to get more heated than it already is, but I always like to read the TOS for a free engine I'll be using to sell applications to potential users. And I'm pretty sure it mentions the ads for free users.

    It sure does: http://gamesalad.com/creator/pricing

I'm closing this as it seems you've already made up your mind about switching to a different development tool.
