Possible iPad mini 2 resolution problem...

I created a game with scene size set to 1024 X 768. Was thinking of publishing to iPad only. I now know that all of the generations of the regular iPad will show a full image based upon the true size of the screen (1024 x 768). What would happen if someone downloaded the game on an iPad mini 2nd generation with a smaller size screen size, but with retina (2048 x1536)? Should I do resolution independence to compensate for this problem?

Yes you should support iPad retina devices (I think apple make it compulsory now)
To fully support retina, just tick the "resolution independence" checkbox under the "project info" section in your project and make sure all images are twice the size of the actor.
To semi (and not recommended) support retina device but to get passed apple simply tick the "resolution independence" checkbox
