Lowered myself to purchase an iMac

With the next Windows version of GS miles away, and several games in the works but are stagnant due to waiting for these updates, last night I purchased an iMac. I feel extremely dirty as I have been a PC man since 1998. But I will wait no more. Ordered it online with some upgrades and its due within the next few days.

In addition to lowering myself, I also grabbed an iphone 5 which is coming tomorrow to help test the new games. At least when the new UI arrives for the Mac version of GS, it wont be too strange as I love how it flows on Windows right now.

Excuse me while I take a shower

I think you've took a step forward not backwards.

Also I really hope the PC UI doesn't come to the Mac.

I felt just same way when my dad brought home a bondi blue iMac. I had spent years mocking Macs and pitying Mac users. Now the only way I'll use a PC is if someone's paying me to do so.

    You'll be a convert soon!

You'll grow to love it. It will be a frustrating transition at first, if you aren't familiar with Mac, that is. I was once a dedicated PC person 15 years ago, mainly because I'm a gamer, but then I got my first iMac with OS9, and I hated it with a passion. Then a couple of months later, once I got used to using it, I loved it. Fast forward 15 years later, I don't use Windows at all, or any Microsoft software for that matter. Now I hate Windows PC's with a passion.

As others have said, if you stick with your new Mac you'll grow to love it and likely never want to return to Windows eventually.

You r not going to get a virus and you are going to have faster load times

I've never had a virus on my PC and Windows 8.1 boots within 5 seconds. I play lots of games and iMacs especially are just not for that.

I was stunned at the price of RAM upgrades. - £160 ($280) to take it to 16GB - my 32GB only cost half that for my PC. I won't convert thats for certain but if it helps me develop more apps, then that will be a good thing

Don't buy Apple RAM, it's notoriously overpriced. Just get the bare amount, and upgrade yourself.

I am unbiased for OS usage, but man for GS, Mac is a must right now. On a day to day basis I use a couple variants of linux (ubuntu, cent, debian), Windows, and OSX and honestly they all serve there purposes and preform well as a modern OS.

Generalizing load times, and viruses is stupid. Hardware/OS version is a huge factor regardless of OS type.

Lowered yourself? I have a Mac Mini! What I'd give for an iMac! Haha. Actually, I have to use bloody Windows again, soon... finishing my studies... stoopid Visual Studio only runs on yukky PC!!!

@jigglybean lol love your post got a good laugh out of it. I am looking forward to your comments in a month or two. Welcome to the dark side :).

Until last August I hadn't used a Mac since 1990. My father bought an iMac a few years ago and was always raving to me about it and telling me to get one. When I started doing apps last August I bought one so I could publish to the Apple store. I got the most powerful 27" iMac they had. I need heaps of grunt because I am a quantity surveyor and I have two 30" Dell monitors attached to it so I can view building plans as large as possible.

I am still amazed at how much power they fit in a slight bulge behind the monitor and how quite it is. I rarely hear any sound from it. If I put my ear right up to it I can hear a slight hum. My PC was a big tower and quite loud (It now retired and lives in a cupboard, I never use it). It doesn't come with a disc drive so I bought a cheap one and plugged it in. That's not a big deal and I hardly ever use it.

The Dell monitors are good quality and I never thought there was anything wrong with them until I bought the iMac. When I slide my app scenes, photos or anything onto the iMac the difference is quite noticeable. The iMac does a much better job of colour and the images are cleaner and sharper. You would never notice this until you slide an image half on one and half on the other.

My biggest concern was availability of software in a Mac version. To get around that I use Parallels Desktop (Virtual Machine) to run Win7 and it works great. I now have the best of both worlds.

Some cons are Apple themselves don't get on top of issues quickly and some have persisted for years. One problem for me was multiple monitors this has been a known issue for years but Apple haven't addressed it. I got around it by creating my own Display Profile this would be difficult for a casual user to do. I personally think Finder sucks compared to the Windows tree system and a couple of other minor things.

I am a convert and will definitely buy a mac again unless they do something really stupid to future models.

Haha, youre using GS as an excuse to buy MAC. But deep down you know there are other factors. Don't worry, you wont regret it.

It's a great choice. It's only a bad choice once the gamer is ready to come out of you. I'm missing a lot of MMO's since I switched over to Mac

I used to Be a Pc person And then I started using Macs in Hs about four years ago. Recently I purchased my first mac about a month ago it was a imac 27. I have a $2500 gaming pc downstairs that I have not used since I got this. A few things I recommend though The Snap feature if you use it on pc get HyperDoc its 10 bucks and well worth it. Also changing some of the buttons so that it more like a pc interface but really you get the best of both worlds. I'm debating selling my gaming pc just because its just sitting there. Once you go Mac you never Go back haha

Some of the posts have made me laugh. I am still keeping my PC. Its self built and a total beast. Having used macincloud online, it just seems that Macs are well....

I am right handed and its like making me use my left hand to do everything. Like when you close the browser - Windows is on the right, mac is on the left but for me, I just never have like how Apple control everything - even down to publishing.

Regarding the upgrade of ram, if I did it myself, that would void the warranty?

Once you go Mac you never go back. I've owned nearly every device, computer apple ever made. Still have all of them and guess what they all still work! I still have my first Mac a 520c laptop that still runs like a champ.

No I don't believe so. It's super easy to do and Apple even provides instructions so I don't believe it will void your warranty.

Welcome to the club ... I'm a Windows guy from the Windows 3.1 days and used to say MACs are for dummies ... They are no longer MACs. They are more like Linux after OS X ... They are great to use I must say ... You can also run Windows inside your MAC if you really miss it but I have not had the need to do that yet ... You will not regret it

yeah you can upgrade the ram yourself no problem in an imac, normal mac book... Though don't try doing it to a retina macbook pretty sure its welded (super glued) in so you have to order it at the time of purchase.

Welcome to the fold.. now you can feel slightly disappointed (or proud) in yourself when you see the words 'apple fanboy' on a blog or forum. :-)

A less crashy GameSalad Creator is definitely worth while. Great reason to jump ship to the mac.

I recently switched from PC to Mac just because of Gamesalad and iOS publishing. I must say I am liking it better, but never ever ever in my life could I deal with using an iPhone over an Android

  • jigglybeanjigglybean Member Posts: 1,584

@StormyStudio - yeah less crashes and the ability to copy and paste rules (cant do this in the Windows version).

When using GS there's more benefits right now using the Mac version.
