OK...

Here's a very (VERY) basic Tempest Style Game (QS !!). Level 1 only and only one enemy.. Wouldn't take much to add more features from the Tempest Games. It does show the basics for one way to produce this type of Game.

Phew - that was fun!

Hope you all enjoy it!

Dang. I guess I don't have to make Tempest now! ;-)

You may as well add some levels and release some of your templates as apps. I'm sure you would make a handful of hundreds of dollars at the minimum! Unless that is what your son is doing with them!? :-)

Oh bloody hell. Just what are you trying to do to us?! Two amazing templates in one day! I'm off to live up a tree :)

You know, I'm trying to finish a game right now. I'm trying to do the artwork for 2 Minute Tank at the same time. I'm getting art for two other games coming in faster than I can slot them into the games themselves.

And you had to go and take me seriously and dangle your tempest carrot in front of the sheep's face.

I love you, you do know that, right?

    QS :D

I have an actor setup for use in my current game that was going to fit nicely as a generic actor for use in a Tempest game. It would have made a lot of the layout and movement a bit easier.

    I still may try later.

This is soooo weird, In was gonna ask in the forums if this game was possible.... I LOVE IT! Still have a mint boxed copy of Tempest 2000 for Jaguar, in my top 5 videogames of all time!

Have you played Space Giraffe on the Xbox/PC? Brilliant game that :D

Yeah I found it was a little TOO much... screen was too busy and I couldn't see what was going on. It was okay but I felt they were just trying to cash in on Tempest 2000 (even though despite appearances the game mechanics are totally different) and didn't get the gameplay right. Still a good game... but it's like Street Fighter 2 and the original 3DO Need For Speed... they seem to be impossible to beat with sequels! lol.

    Ooooh! I'm the complete opposite...
I LOVED Space Giraffe - thought it was (and still is) one of the greatest shooters ever! It *is* a marmite game though...

Bulling is a real high :D

This isn't as easy as you make out! Huge respect to Wayne's son for taking up the challenge :D

Just saw your geo war game too...can i ask if you have released these if not WHY not! they rock.

Edit...just run the Geo Wars on my iPod and it runs at 10 fps max :( maybe that's why...dam shame.

Hi Darren, Thanks for the comments. You're based in the Midlands (UK) aren't you? We should arrange a midlands meet up some day.

I've just read you're comments re [FPS] being low. With some fettling, tweaking and re-arranging you should be able to get [GS Geo Wars] and [GS Tempest] to average out at around 28 - 34 FPS.

The templates I usually upload are very 'Raw'. For example for an immediate FPS increase in the GS Geo Wars Template you could try the following:

=GS GE WARS OPTIMISATION EXAMPLES =================================

    1. Change the Particle Spawner for each explosion on the enemies to a simple
    animated sprite: FPS + 6.

    2. Change the Projectile Shoot Spawner to use a 'Pool' of actors (bullets), FPS + 8.

    3. Change the Enemies Rotate Behaviour for an Animated Sprite Series: FPS + 4.

    4. Change the Enemy Spawner to a Pool of managed actor 'children': FPS + 6.
    =====================================================================

These are just a few ideas how you could improve the FPS for iPod, iPhone 3G - or you could target the 3GS and iPad market.

    Thanks again.

No most likely not. Wayne Pulled all of his old templates I think cause people were just submitting them as is. If you want to know if online demos are downloadable then search the exact name in GameSalad under new and if it comes up it is downloadable and if it doesn't its not.
