Update or create new app?

Hey!
I was just wondering everyone's opinion on whether it is better to:

   1. Update an existing app; or
   2. create a new app

I am asking if any past experiences based on which option produces most downloads.?

    Depends on the changes.

    Update existing:

    • UI overhaul
    • New bosses
    • New levels
    • New weapons
    • Bug fixes / patches / performance improvements
    • Upgraded gameplay (slight improvements)
    • Retina update
    • New social media integration
    • etc.

    New app:

    • New gameplay
    • New storyline (can be connected with previous')
    • Major feature deprecation(s)
    • Same game(play), totally new theme (e.g. GameDev Story)
    • etc.
