Browsing slashdot this morning and I found this:

http://linux.slashdot.org/story/10/05/06/1518251/MMORPG-Ryzom-Released-Under-AGPL

http://media.ryzom.com/

What's this mean for GameSalad Chefs? Well the assets are now under CC Share-Alike with Attribution. This means as long as you give the creators credit, and your resulting work is open for others to use as well, you have a new library of assets to play with!

I'm looking forward to see what people do with this. Post games created with these assets in the thread!

Resources ... music files, textures, map images ... all freely available from a popular MMORPG. I imagine you can use it for whatever you like.

I think it has to be in the public domain so that rules out app store games

You may be right. Looking at the AGPL license a little closer, seems like it only covers free software.

For the assets usage the particular CC license, I think it means that you can sell the games, but people are free to use your game as a source work for their own games. CC is based on the idea that people can both make money on works, but share it as well.
