★★★ Time to buy a Wii U? ★★★

I've been looking at the Wii U more and more recently, i have and love 2 3DS's regular and XL but never bothered with the U mainly because our Wii has been sitting here gathering dust since last xmas but i see the mighty Mario 3D World has just been released and I'm now REALLY tempted to pick one up.

There's a lot of offers around atm on premium bundle packs with mario u and luigi u and 3D world for £280 and games i want to play for e.g. Rayman Legends £17.99.

I also like the look of the new sports with online tennis and bowling but think you need the remote plus to play them which is where the BUT comes in as i only have 2 original remotes (i know you can buy the plus add on but it looks ugly and its expensive in the UK, i rule out 3rd party for the big N so would only buy official) so i looked into buying 4 plus remotes and there £40 each! i did find Party U was bundled with one for only £32 but it still works out at £128 to play 4 player tennis, bowling and Mario & Luigi, Rayman etc so its kinda putting me off.

Mario Kart 8 and the new Zelda look great but is it worth spending £450 to get a console with 3D Mario, Mario U, Luigi U, Rayman, tennis and bowling along with 4 wii plus remotes?…I'm not sure.

Darren.

In my opinion no. The Wii U is a big flop, they launched it with very outdated hardware and expected developers and customers to support it - big fail! As a result they basically have next to no 3rd party support. Buy it if you must play Zelda and the Mario games.

Rayman Legends is available on 360/PS3/Vita already and can probably be picked up at a decent prize. Tennis and bowling... dust off your old wii ;) ...or wait until similar games are released for xbone/PS4 which in all probability will look better and support motion controllers also.

I think it is really cool. I want to play lego city undercover. The gamepad is better than the playstation. It can run cod ghosts at almost 60 fps.

I bought it for my son last Christmas and there wasn't a lot out for it then but now some great games are finally out, so I would say yes. Super Mario Bros U and the Luigi expansion is excellent and the New Super Mario 3D World is fantastic. Other fun stuff-Wii Party, the updated Zelda WW, Pikmin 3 and Donkey Kong hits in a few months. Oh…and Lego City Undercover is great.

Oh…And Rayman is excellent. Wii Bowling and Tennis are downloads, so they are pretty cheap. If you buy Wii Party, there is a wiimote included, same with some versions of Dance Party 2014 and Mario and Sonic Winter Olympics, but I don't own those.

Just sold my Wii U today... We tried to get "into" it but the gamepad still felt a little bit like a gimmick. It's just no fun switching your eyes back and forth between screens (gamepad and tv) for single player games and the few two-player games you could play with it were fun, but didn't really have a long-term engagement factor...

The whole system was kind of wonky. Once you transfer your saved games from you Wii they're wiped off it (very odd)... and I had lots of Wii discs that couldn't be read by my Wii U (but still work great in my 7 year old Wii... go figure)... I was one of those nuts who stood in line at midnight to get my Wii U... and here, just about a year later, I can say the whole experience was very disappointing.

Got a used Xbox a few months ago and my kids seem to be enjoying the variety of games that offers much more.

I had some 'points' transferred from card to Flybuys and bought a PS4 - will see how that goes...

... meanwhile I have a list of steam games so long I have never even touched on my gaming PC it is embarassing...

... maybe that is because I spend most of my time making them. Or trying to at least.
