  • Isn't Photoshop Elements mainly a photo editor?
Yeah thats mostly what it is for thats why I'm looking for something new to design with. Thanks for the response!
  • If you want the main Photoshop but don't want to shell out the full price you could subscribe for the service for the months you think you'd use it most. This is what I tend to do, I might subscribe to it for one or two months a year if I feel I'm going to use quite a bit within that time. Other times I use other/cheaper software.
Thanks for the tip Ill go ahead and try that out. Thanks again!

I've had CS5 for several years and it's great if you have the money. Gimp or Inkscape are both great as others have already said.

If you for an LLC you can write off the cost of your software to help negate your tax burden from sales.

Depending on your cash flow, I'd strongly recommend Adobe Creative Cloud. I know that when they shifted to a subscription model there was a lot of outcry, but the bottom line is it's fantastic value. I subscribed for Photoshop but every time there's something I want to do, I find there's an app included. Drawing a logo? Illustrator. Animating? Flash. Need to make a web page? Muse. Got that trailer to hammer out? After Effects.

I'm not entirely certain of the US prices but it's something around $60 a month.
For students and teachers it's only about $20 a month.

When you consider that Photoshop alone was in the region of £600, that's a full year you get ALL the apps for the price of Photoshop. Add on the endless upgrade fees and the price just gets better. It's a staggering deal. Especially if you're a student/teacher. Then it's just... too good to be true.
