iOS now Android...

So I have successfully published several apps for iOS and I am about to submit my first universal build. I think I would like to try to publish this app for Android as well. A couple of questions....
1) What do I need to do to begin publishing for Android devices?
2) Do you recommend publishing to other platforms also?
3) Do I just save the current iOS version as the new android and begin modifying it to become the Android version, or do I need to rebuild from scratch?
I appreciate your help! I'm looking forward to expanding to other devices!

I have had apps pirated on android so I tend to release just for apple, unless they're free.

What I do not understand, is how to take my universal ios app and make it an android app. When I publish my android app, which devices will it work? What do I need to do to setup my current universal ios app to make it android ready when I am ready to publish for Android? When I go into the project, I only see Nook and Kindle (along with the apple devices). Are these the only ones I can publish for, or will the app be available for android phones? What screen size?
All of these things are new to me as I do not usually work with android. Any help or direction in these areas would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
