Problem importing a wav file

Hey all,

My current problem is importing a .wav file, i've imported a lot of small files for sound effects,

But now I have a longer file which will play on the background (evening sounds) on the main scene.

The file is 6 minutes long.

When I select the file to import in GS it says:

The following files could not be imported: eveningsounds.wav

Why is this? Could it be of the length of the .wav?

Hmz.. it seems to be the length. A simple 50second wav for the background takes on 15mb of my project. Any ideas how to make this smaller? Quality loss is not a very big deal..

@basgoodboy if you're on a mac i'd try using "audacity." Or a program similar. Essentially audacity gives you control to compress your song. Yes GS does the same thing but programs like audacity give you the controls to do it the way you want to. GS works well m4a audio type files (for music) and .ogg files for sound effects. Audacity can do these conversions for you. So I'd look into that. I'd also search these threads for audio compression or music compression. There's been plenty written on this subject. To be clear I'm not an audio guy, so I'm not exactly the best person to talk to, but the suggestions i've listed above were many of the suggestions given to me by the people on these forums. I haven't had any problems and the file size was much smaller than the original uncompressed versions.

@anatomyofdreams thanks, I already looked into Audacity but unfortunately on my Mac it says it's not an official Mac app and so not opening. Altho in Quicktime I was able to smallen some .wavs I am using as sound effects. But still looking to compress a longer .wav into the same length, but smaller size.
