Bulletrisk! My second game is approved! Promo codes inside...

Hi all! I made Squeak's Dreams a couple of years ago but have returned to GameSalad for more. Couldn't stay away! Anyway, my game is called Bulletrisk. You tap the top of the screen to score, but that makes bullets, which fly towards your ship at the bottom of the screen. You can only use one finger to play (or it resets your score - harsh, I know), meaning you have to let loose as many bullets as you think you can deal with.

I wish I could afford the Pro membership as I think Game Center would help this a lot. But I can always upgrade and update if it sells well.

    First and last codes have been used (thanks for notifying the community, guys). Middle code gives me a "not available in the NZ Store" message. WAAAAAAAAH. Looks interesting, though... any idea if/when it will be in the NZ store?

    I'm curious as to how exactly this works (sorry, don't have any credit right now to try it out!)

    Do you hold down the top of the screen to release bullets, then try and survive against that many bullets?

    Or can you release some, move, release more, etc till you die?

    The game's not out until Thursday so don't worry about that :) You tap the top of the screen to score 100 points. That spawns 3 bullets but also adds 0.1 to a hidden stat. Keep tapping and the stat goes up, each time it hits an integer, it raises the universal multiplier. So then each tap scores 200 and so on. It's capped at 10x, and your final multiplier is applied to your final score once the 60 seconds-long game is up. Score 2million points and you get the S rank, which is the aim of the game.

    Those sound like interesting scoring dynamics though! Glad to see someone thinking about that kind of stuff :)

    @quantumsheep Do hang on to the code. Sadly my developer account transition to a new year came during the maintenance that's happening right now so Bulletrisk is currently awaiting contract and therefore unavailable to download as a promo. Hope it's sorted by Thursday. I actually have update 1.1 ready to roll too adding special effects to the graphics and a quick retry shortcut, but that's unlikely to hit launch now. A real shame. I'd rather reviews were of ver1.1 and I've already delayed it once! Meh :/

    Looks very nice, but unfortunately, I can't find it in the US app store.

    Edit: I just watched the video, and It says Due on July 25, is that the date I should wait until?

    @MVL Yep, it'll go up on Thursday, provided Apple solves its hacking problem before then. The system thinks my development license has lapsed because the renew fell within the downtime. I'll update this when the game's out. Sadly, not even promo codes will redeem right now :(

    Right, Apple's dev center is still down and Bulletrisk can't move from Pending Contract to Ready For Sale. So it's unlikely to release tomorrow now :( But in the mean-time, I've made a video showing a AA-scoring run on update 1.1 which will be submitted for approval as soon as the main game is live. See the combo multiplier, new special effects and full minute-long game in full effect!

    @quantumsheep and everyone else - it's out now! Currently just in the UK, US and Irish App Stores. I may broaden it later but I'll start with that. Just sent my press release to GamesPress. Hope they run it like they did Squeak's Dreams! I'll be submitting the update for 1.1 as soon as I can, but 'vanilla' Bulletrisk is as pure as they come. Hope you like it, one and all :)

    I got it and have enjoyed it, though I found the 'no hi-score if you die' thing a bit cruel! ;)

    @quantumsheep It's all carefully considered - didn't want people to spam the top bar and get massive scores, then explode and feel smug with a new record! As for 1.1, it adds the special effects seen in that trailer with the bullet trails, which are optional and toggled via the options menu. It also features a fast reset during play, where you touch with three fingers at once at any time to try again. Makes it very hard to put down ;)

    Some news! I have submitted update 1.1 so just waiting for Apple to OK it. Also got the game listed on Gamespress in the UK (sweet). Was reading an old interview I did where I mentioned the Bulletrisk prototype, so made a video of it. Here it is if anyone's interested in how GameSalad can bring an idea to a prototype and then to a reality!

    One tiny thing I'd suggest is (And stick with me here!)...

    Well, you've seen 'The weakest link', right?

    I think the concept's quite similar. In that, in TWL the money builds up with each correct answer.

    You lose all your money if someone answers incorrectly though.

    Which makes when to 'bank' a strategic move. Bank when the money's low, and you'll get less overall. Fail to bank when the money's high, and you may lose everything on the next answer.

    Maybe that might add a little something to the game?

    Just a suggestion. Like I said, I'm enjoying the game anyway :D

    Ah! That is a very nice idea! However, I'm not sure it would work in Bulletrisk. You'd still need to be flawless to get the 2million points and S grade, which would make banking your points only slow down your scoring and only useful if you make mistakes. Also, once you hit 10x multiplier, there would be nothing to stop you spamming the score button and banking before it hits you, which surely negates the need for skill?

    You'll be pleased to hear I went Pro yesterday with GameSalad so online leaderboards and achievements are coming. And no adverts! :P Version 1.1 (that does still have adverts) is In Review as I speak. Was going to reject the binary but it went into review as I went to reject it, so may as well let people have the fast retry and special effects while I work on all the Pro features.

    Exciting times, really glad you're still playing the game! Will likely submit it for Game of the Month when the Pro features are in :)

    Bulletrisk v1.1 just went live in the App Store! Let me know what you think of the GFX option (in the options menu). Game Center stuff will come in v1.2.
