Is it possible to upload an .apk to Google Play that's over 50mb without an expansion file? As of now it looks like there's no way to upload a Gamesalad android game over 50mb to the Play store, but correct me if I'm wrong.
Thanks.
Thanks.

I can't upload my game either to Google Play

Is this final? We really can´t publish a game over 50Mb??
That is it.

Yeah, this was a bit of a nasty surprise. More annoyed at Google than anything, what a stupid restriction. As for Tizen, it looks to be Samsung's replacement for Android.
you can always upload to amazon, they don't have the same restriction. neither does iOS.
the 50MB limit always seemed a bit silly to me, seems way to small. they again, google play is a bizarre store

If a lot of your images are PNG this compressor is brilliant. Seriously it reduced my images by a factor of 5 at least while keeping quality and transparency. Just thought this might help you reduce file size.

Hope this link helps. https://tinypng.com/
It will compressed the size of your images.
I'll give Amazon a try, thanks @jonmulcahy
PNG crushing programs like ImageOptim and those above are great, I used it to get my game under 100MB, but 50MB? I'll just have to give Google Play a miss.
Really? Since when did iOS not have that restriction? I remember reading about the restriction first being 25MB and then 50MB. But do you mean that this has changed to over 50MB? Isn´t the restriction actually for enabling download of apps without WiFi? And if the size exceeds the restriction, you must have a WiFi connection? I might be totally wrong here, which is why I really need to get the right info.
Thanks,
/Seb
yes for iOS the limit used to be like 25MB, then 50, but it's now 100MB to download over cellular. anything larger requires Wifi, but you can publish apps up to 2GB i think.
Google has a hard limit of 50GB with the possibility of expansion files, but GS does not support those yet.

OK, that is some good info. Actually, VERY good info. Hmm... Thanks!
my game project is 49.6 Mb when I upload it, it gains 10 mb which puts me over. Have no idea how to solve this.
Have you been through all your rules etc and checked to see if you can combine any of the expressions etc to reduce file size in the coding aspect?
have you tried reducing the size of your images and then increasing them in GS?
They don't seem to be too bothered about image quality on Google, so it may be worth sacrificing the look of some of your images for the opportunity to get your game on the store.
I had to reduce most of mine to 1/4 retina to get the file size below 50mb and I thought they looked pretty horrible, but I have never had a negative comment about the graphics.
It’s not a bug – it’s an undocumented feature
@CodeWizard @BlackCloakGS
Tried to reduce images, and compress sounds and music, still way over 50mb.
I have a finished game with GS, and I can't publish it google, its so sad, I hope they make a solution soon..
It says on http://developer.android.com/google/play/expansion-files.html
"On most devices, Google Play downloads the expansion file(s) at the same time it downloads the APK, so your application has everything it needs when the user opens it for the first time."
So GS can handle this on the server side, if the game is over 50mb then split it and use the expansion-files. upon download, the whole package will be downloaded together.
Roy.
I almost feel like it's more on Google. Why do they have to be the only app store in town with such a limit and forcing developers to do such a work around? Like jonmulcahy said, Amazon, while an Android store don't have such a limit either, so you can still publish to there.
Yes, its google's fault that GameSalad doesn't support expansion files....

And it's GameSalad's fault that GooglePlay has the 50MB restriction.
It is still a little crazy that the biggest internet company in the world has such a restrictive limit
Fact is that google made a way for larger apps to be uploaded, it's not up to google to hold every other companies hand.
