Help Updating Viewer on Ipad. Please Help!!!

Hi there, I posted recently re: this and in my haste I ended up logging in under another email address. Wingmanapps very kindly offered me some advice but I am having problems. Any help you can give me would be greatly appreciated.

I have updated Creator but when I come to test on my Ipad in GS Viewer I get a "Need to Update Viewer." I have downloaded the Viewer from this site and made sure I had the latest Xcode updated. (I should just mention that all my certificates should still be valid as it is probably less than 5 months since I first installed Viewer and did all that certificate stuff, joined Apple developers etc.)

I hooked my ipad up to my mac. When I open the downloaded folder I doubleclick on the Xcode project icon and that opens up Xcode. It comes up with "checking DDI" and "indexing" messages. Then I figured out to change a box at the top of the screen from "Simulator" to "Jason's iPad" and click Run. And it just says "Build failed". When I first did all of this my broadband connection (right on cue) started playing up when I first opened up the xCode Project and I'm wondering if it has got part way through the updating process and that has stuffed it up for subsequent efforts. Or am I just not doing it right?

Please can someone help? I have absolutely no clue what to do. I only managed to get the viewer installed in the first place thanks to following an excellent video, the process was incredibly complicated. But I managed it and it has all been running fine until I updated Creator.

I should just add that my iPad is running the latest iOS

Without knowing your exact problem, all I can suggest is making sure the Bundle Identifier in the info.plist is the same as what you set up in the Developers Portal.

If you haven't changed it, I think it says something about com.geniegames or something.

Thank you SmirlyWhirl. I am afraid I am such an ignoramus that I don't really understand! However I will look at what you have said and thank you again.

Is anyone able to give me a short step by step for updating Viewer on the iPad? Just so that I can follow it and identify where I am going wrong? I am sure that the problem lies with my ignorance of the normal process for doing this.

I assume you've watched a tutorial to get it set up in the first place?

Yes I think I watched a tutorial by t-shirtbooth. It was excellent but I had no clue what I was doing! Luckily it worked!! In extremis I will try following that again, but it took me hours to go through the first time and I am sure I will run into problems seeing as I already have Viewer installed on my iPad.

That video had you set some things up in Apple's Provisioning Portal. At some point, you set a bundle identifier (may be using the wrong term here) that looks like com.gsviewer.something or com.something.gsviewer.

When you open the viewer to xCode, on the first screen you see, there should be a text box with com.geniegames.something, or something along those lines. You need to change that to what you set up in the Provisioning Portal.

At least that's the only thing I have to do when I update the viewer. If you've done that, then I'm not sure where the issue comes from.

Ahh... thanks Shmirly Whirl that is most helpful. I think you are onto something here! I have found this error message which I guess is why the build is failing it says "A valid provisioning profile matching the application's Identifier 'com.gendaigames.gamesaladviewer' could not be found"

What I can't see though is where to find that text box you describe in Xcode. Are you able to be a bit more specific as to where i find it? I'm heading over to my provisioning portal now to look for the right thing to stick in.

Hi Shmirly Whirl, success!!! Thank you so much. I found the Bundle Identifier and changed it to what I had in the Provisioning Portal and it says Build Success! Thank you so much for all of your help! You are a gentleman and a scholar! :)

Haha thanks, I'm glad it worked out. I'm sorry I couldn't have been more helpful- I'm not on my Mac so I couldn't look at specifics.

Not at all :) You were most helpful. And I've learnt something in the process :)
